Summary

Loud beeps from his phone startled Ilya, and he slowed down, reaching for the device he’d put on the bar between his legs. Jane. He smiled to himself when he saw the notifications, and, checking Marlowe was absorbed in his own fitness, opened it quickly, smiling in anticipation of Shane's words.
The smile was wiped off his face almost instantly.
The blood drained from his face, and Ilya felt like the bottom had just fallen out of his world.

“Okay.” Stiles glanced at his phone, wincing at the battery being close to ten percent. It was probably time to call Scott. Turning off the flashlight, mostly to save battery and kind of freaking out over how dark it was—though the half-moon reflecting off the snow helped a bit—he opened his contacts with shaking hands and scrolled through to Scott’s name. Once he hit it, he put the phone to his ear, looking around, and froze.
The phone rang in his ear, but his eyes were locked on something big and moving through the trees.
Oh no. Oh no, no, no.
If that was a fucking bear, Stiles was fucked!
The line kept ringing and ringing, but Scott didn’t answer. Eventually his voicemail picked up and Stiles very slowly lowered the phone and hung up without looking, eyes still on the dark shape in the trees. He glanced down for only a second to turn on the flashlight function again, then lifted it ever so slowly upwards, and felt his breath freeze in his lungs.
It was a wolf.
It was a motherfucking wolf.

Stiles’ phone was off.
“No. No, no, no, please, no,” Derek whispered to himself, barely able to see the screen through his tearful eyes.
What had he done? Had he been so blinded by rage that he dismissed Stiles' call for help?- OR -

The warmth of a hug and bubbling laughter. A rush of adrenaline then the crash of a wave. He feels heavy, like his bones are made of lead. His lungs, as hard and unyielding as metal, stop him from breathing. His heart skips three beats in a row and he’s lost between panic and a heart attack. He feels pins and needles over his limbs, like thousands of ants consuming his flesh. And then there’s nothing for a long while.
The sound of the wind is the first to return, then the crickets, then the frantic, loud beating of Stiles’ heart. He falls to his knees with tears running down his face, like grief and confusion. Like something reached inside him and took from it a little shard of his soul. He manages to get on all fours before being sick on the forest ground. He wipes his mouth, the tears from his eyes and the sweat from his brow with shaky hands and tries to stand. He wobbles, but stays up, then he looks around. The Nemeton is dark and rotten. On top of it lies Derek’s naked form.

When Stiles and Derek were children, a misunderstanding created a rift between Claudia Stilinski, owner of The Hale Yarn Company, and Talia Hale, the best knitter and spinner in the county, leading to the opening of Lucky Ewe, Claudia Stilinski's yarn store.
Stiles and Derek have been lifelong competitors at the Beacon County Fair and after their mothers died, became owners of competing yarn shops. Derek is a budding knitwear designer on the eve of the release of his first book of patterns. Stiles wants him on his popular knitting YouTube show despite the decade-long feud between the Stilinski's and Hales.
