"Alone in a sea of sand, a monolith of a building rests atop a hill, cut out of sandstone. It’s packed with clays and muds inside, retaining any coolness accumulated from the relatively colder nights. There’s barely any windows, and a tall tower splits from the building’s middle. Atop the tower, at the very top, perches a blindingly red figure."
When Grian starts overheating, Scar gets worried. His wings look weird, and they need a preen. Grian needs some help reaching a spot, and they silently pine until one of them breaks an unspoken rule.

“Have you got anywhere to stay?” Jon asks him, briskly. “Friends, acquaintances, maybe, who you could stay with…?”
Martin flushes, deeply. “I, I mean— n-no, not really,” he stammers, and then goes even redder. “Or, just, y’know not that I’d want to, to. Put in the middle of this. Put in danger of, of worms.”
“Ah,” Jon says, “No, of course, that makes sense.” Why drag anyone else into this mess? Seven people died during Prentiss’s initial hospitalization; the collateral damage of roping someone from outside the Institute into her orbit doesn’t bare thinking about. “In that case…” Jon feels like there’s some alternative solution, one he’s just not thinking of at the moment, but it evades him, and Martin needs somewhere safe to stay. “My couch is quite comfortable. You’re welcome to come and stay with me until you figure something else out.”
Martin is held hostage by Jane Prentiss for two weeks, and can't go back to his flat. Jon offers him a place to stay until Prentiss and her worms can be dealt with, and they can be sure he's safe.

“Right now, I just want to focus on us, not…the institute,” Martin said, brushing back Tim’s hair. He kissed his forehead, and Tim melted against the touch. “And this is pretty nice…”
“Where do we go from here, then?” Jon asked, hesitant glances passing to each of them.
“I say we go to Camelot,” Tim said.
“I’d like to…” Sasha said sheepishly.
“As would I…” Martin said.
Jon took a deep breath, and he nodded slowly. “Camelot it is, then.”

The man hovering over him leaned back, releasing Grian completely. Cold night air rushed in to fill the void.
“I guess it’s out in the open now,” the stranger hummed. “Shame. I wanted to avoid this.”
With the additional glow occupying the space between them, Grian was finally able to catch features that were lost in the prior darkness. His curiosity outweighed all else, and he drank them in greedily. As soon as he saw who sat across from him, alarms blared in his mind.
This man wasn’t a civilian, wasn’t even a hero.
“Hello, Doctor,” the villain mused. “You were quite the help today.”
