Summary
Colin was just a fifteen year old orphan down on his luck, burned by a string of unsuccessful adoptions. All he had were his superhero newspaper articles he would read over and over again. He hoped one day that a miracle would happen out of nowhere that would change his life for the better. He was rather surprised at what fate eventually handed him.

Wordlessly, Batman pulled up a video showing Captain Marvel saying the word and transforming.
“You were saying?” Batman asked.
“…I mean, that could be a deep-fake.”

Only when they are forced to work together they realise they were wrong about the other.

Bruce can’t help but be suspicious. Ed is wearing a suit, something obviously high quality but a little oddly cut. Avant garde, maybe, by some obscure designer. He’s missing a tie, but it’s hard to tell if that’s a style choice or if he’d just lost it somewhere along the way. The whole thing is badly wrinkled, as if he’d left in a hurry and hadn’t had time to pack. It speaks well of him.

Weakness would only get him killed, and Grandfather would loathe to see his second favorite grandson die before his time. And of course, Damian. His twin, his confidant, the one who scared away the nightmares and for whom Danyal would give the world. Danyal loved his family deeply.
He just wished his love was not a weakness.

Summary
Smoke billowed languidly from the lit cigarette held steadily between Billy's fingers. His muscular body leant lazily against the railings of the rooftop he chose as today's spot. Small lights flickered over the city as the stars brightly lit up the otherwise dark sky.
It was one of those rare peaceful nights without villain attacks or petty thefts to disturb the sleeping town.
Billy liked to come out and watch the slumbering city to relax with a cigarette between his fingertips, occasionally putting it to his lips, breathing in the nicotine to relax his nerves as it mildly burned the back of his throat.

“ His vice was one that could easily be held between two fingers. It could be ignited and set into motion with the click of a lighter and a cupped hand surrounding the flame. Cigarettes were a recurring item in his life. His father used to step out during light arguments with his mother for a ‘smoke break’ and return with an apologetic look. The old man at the corner store with kind eyes and a crooked smile often held a cigarette in his hand or patted the pack of cigarettes in his pocket as a nervous fidget. The pack of kids that first taught Billy to trust his instincts, who taught him when to run and hide, stole packs out of the back pockets and bags of adults. When Billy would shift his feet or look longingly at restaurants and at the people who were eating while walking by, they would offer out a clenched hand holding a cigarette. They told him it’ll ease his appetite. ”
OR: Billy picked up smoking at a young age and hasn’t been able to drop the habit. Bruce notices.

"You abandoned me." He croaked. His eyes were filling with tears. "You abandoned me."
She flinched, looking as if he had hit her. Then she squared her shoulders, face going impassive. 'It was the right thing to do." She declared. She looked like she believed it.
OR - Billy Batson was expecting to have to beg for forgiveness when he finally found his mother after so many years. He wasn't expecting for it to be the other way round.
