Angel mulled it over in his head. The defiance he defaulted to around anyone who wasn’t his boss (or Charlie on a bad day) was missing. In search of it, he buried himself in the vacant spot it left. The deeper he searched, the more he realized: the hole wasn’t vacant, but filled. The words substituting were not his own—they belonged to Vox and his embrace, and they demanded only one thing.
