Summary
Sam and Dean have always been inseparable. They were as close as two brothers could be. That is, until a year ago when Dean mysteriously dropped off the radar. Sam always believed it had something to do with Dean’s bad news girlfriend: Abbigail Donovan. But with no way to contact his brother, Sam was left to himself.
Now, nearly two years and one strange phone call from Dean later, Sam gets a call from Sioux Falls Police. Abbi is dead, Dean’s in the hospital, and what’s more, there’s a child in the picture. All signs point to a domestic fight turned fatal–but no charges are being pressed. Sam soon learns the reason for this. Dean is the victim of domestic abuse.
With Abbi dead, and nothing left to Dean in the will, Sam goes to South Dakota to pick up his brother and his niece and takes them back home with him to California. There he hopes Dean will recover and get his life back together after the damage caused by his dead fiance. And when Dean makes friends with Sam’s co-worker, Castiel, Sam starts to believe recovery is possible after all.
But the past is never easily escaped, leaving Dean, Sam, and Castiel to face demons they never imagined.

Summary

He’s pretty sure the owner, the guy with the messy dark hair, is going to throw him out and tell him never to come back, but instead he brings him inside the bakery and takes care of his wounds. He tells Dean it was brave and when he finds out Dean needs a job, he hires him.
They immediately form a strong bound. Can Dean finally find the happiness he’d wanted for so long?

In a world where Omegas are treated as worse than even second class citizens, Cas has managed to survive living in "The District". The District is where all umated Omegas, and those without guardians are sent to live. It's a slum where they are easily forgotten. Crime and prostitution abound there. After being tossed out in his first heat, Cas is taken in by a great aunt who lived just long enough for him to secure a teaching degree. After her death he was sent to The District. He avoids aggressive Alphas that would force him into prostitution or claim him against his will. At 40, he doubts he'll ever find his true mate.
Dean is a successful Alpha unlike most others. He respects everyone, but he has held out for years in hopes of finding his true mate. By age 37 he has all but given up, so when he meets a pretty Beta while out shopping and she asks him out, he says yes. He just wants to be happy for once in his life.
When their paths cross, they realize they've finally found their true mate, but someone else says they have a claim on Cas, and things are about to get messy. In order to save Cas once and for all, Dean has to save all Omegas.

As much as Dean hates him for that, the longer he sticks around, the more he begins to threaten that first rule too. Dean’s been taught his whole life that those who play hockey should not be captivated by deep accented voices and the way a guy handles his stick, so how the hell is he supposed to justify what he’s starting to think about Cas? This whole fic was inspired by listening to Journey on my walks to the car from work every night. Hence the song titles...

Summary
