‘Keeley, you’re starting to scare me.’
‘Please, let’s just go, I need to be somewhere else.’Or, Rebecca and Keeley try to solve their respective heart sicknesses with a change in scenery.

“Right then, that settles it — I’m taking you home. Collect your things.”
He looks up at her curiously. “Are you suggesting we play hooky, boss?”
“Come now, Coach Lasso,” she replies, offering her hand for him to take. “It’s not hooky if I’m in charge.”
There’s a beat silence before Beard’s practically hauling him upright by the back of his jacket, brushing his hands over his shoulders to smooth out non-existent creases, seemingly dusting off his lapels.
“Don’t fuck this up,” he hisses in his ear, and Ted only has a brief moment to offer his friend a perturbed glance before he’s letting out an indignant squawk, fighting to keep his footing as he shoves him forward on the muddy pitch.
Rebecca accepts him with open arms.
or, Ted slips and hurts his back — Rebecca knows just how to fix it.

Keeley hadn’t called her on any of it. Which she was grateful for. And a little suspicious of. But mostly grateful, for the way her friend kept looking at her every so often with a soft, reassuring smile.
“He’s going to love it,” she kept saying. “Even if you burn the pudding, he’ll still love it.”

He didn’t know her, not really, not beyond the little glimpses of her that he’d caught on off seconds, in little jokes, half-smiles. He felt, for an unexplainable reason, that he could see Rebecca clearly if he didn’t look directly at her.
At the same time, he also felt like he’d known her for a long time. The two feelings overlapped like the transparent curtains on the bedroom window upstairs, the ones that always waved when he left the window open when the first crisp breeze of fall came through. The two colors of the material would blend into a beautiful middle hue that felt more real than the two separate ones.

He slips when he bursts out of his door and onto Paved Court, the stones slick with the rain that’s roaring down relentlessly. Water rolls down his neck and his t-shirt chafes uncomfortably where it clings to his skin, and he has to push back the hair from his eyes by the time he breaks onto the grass on the Green.
There’s a flash of lightning in the distance, followed by a roll of thunder that reverberates in his bones, and yet somehow the epitome of the raw power of the Gods has nothing on the thundering of his heart in his chest.
Please Lord — not her.
“I’m almost there,” he pants into the receiver. “It’s gonna be okay.”
Jolts of pain flash up his legs with each thundering step, the harsh impact of his footfalls kicking up water when he stumbles through a puddle entrapped in the uneven surface of the sidewalk; he’s never run so fast in his life.
And yet somehow he knows it’s not fast enough.
