Optimus felt helpless. How was he supposed to tell Megatron any more clearly that he just wanted him to be happy? “If you want one, yes!”

While it is hard to study sparks directly, it is hypothesised that the white core of the spark is responsible for a bot's emotions and identity, while the colourful corona is correlated with their drive, their determination.
It is not currently known what would happen if one were to separate individual fragments of a spark, due to ethical concerns of such an experiment, but it is perhaps feasible for a strong-willed enough bot to survive on their spark's corona alone.
