Optimus felt helpless. How was he supposed to tell Megatron any more clearly that he just wanted him to be happy? “If you want one, yes!”

It is not currently known what would happen if one were to separate individual fragments of a spark, due to ethical concerns of such an experiment, but it is perhaps feasible for a strong-willed enough bot to survive on their spark's corona alone.

While it wouldn't be Truth or Ideals that would ultimately lead Giratina to regretting going along with Volo, it would learn the taste of regret and defeat all the same in many flavors.
Stealing the partner of a fiery ghost is a lesson not learned yet, but it will be. Oh, it will be.

Optimus and his team are in trouble.
They have accidentally/not so accidentally destroyed the Allspark, and the Elite Guard is on their way. Sure, it was to keep the artefact out of Decepticons' hands, but their bosses might be (rightfully) pissed at them. And when Ultra Magnus is angry, you better watch out for that hammer.
So, what's a Prime to do to protect his own in this case?
Well, perhaps use his own righteous fury as well as his encyclopedical knowledge of the Autobots' laws to deflect the blame and dazzle his Superiors before they even have a chance to ask where the Allspark is.
It's not even as if it would be unwarranted. After all, Optimus should have been on maternity leave for ages, not dealing with this slag!
