Zuko has been traveling with the Avatar gaang for three weeks, five days, and, if he’s honest, far too many emotionally compromising group bonding moments.
Not used to sharing campfires without suspicion. Not used to laughter that isn’t sharp-edged or cruel. Not used to people standing close to him without flinching. And he is definitely not used to being grabbed.
Unfortunately, Sokka has decided Zuko’s survival depends on fixing that. With firebending off the table, Sokka, self-proclaimed “tactical genius,” has taken it upon himself to teach him non-bending close-quarters combat.
Specifically: grappling.
Specifically: using Zuko as a demonstration dummy.
Zuko hates it...He absolutely hates it.
There is nothing dignified about being shoved, pinned, or manhandled mid-argument, and nothing strategic about the way Sokka keeps finding his wrists, shoulders, waist…
This is a problem...A serious problem...And Zuko is handling it very normally.

As always, Jabber turns to be more of an annoyance, disrupting Zanka mid-mission. He makes Zanka his sole focus and Zanka can't help but do so in turn— anything else than his full attention would mean being gravely injured, after all.
Zanka is sure this is it, when he realizes that trash is raining upon him and that Jabber's claws come awfully close. There was no avoiding either.
Turns out that Zanka was safe, even when he wasn't supposed to be.

To the Cleaners, their bond doesn’t make sense— they don’t know, likely won’t ever know what they went through together, how Jabber initiated and Zanka, in an unhinged rush of stress, pain and desire, met him halfway.
They’re too similar not to have ended up like this, he thinks bleakly. Maybe it was bound to have happened, one way or another.
After the loop, Zanka recovers. But recovery is not a steady slope, and before the healing process can begin, all infected areas must be purged. The question is: once all the ugly bits are cut away, how much of Zanka really remains?
