Summary
Will Byers left Hawkins for the warmth of California after high school and never looked back. Now a comic book artist living along the southern coast, he’s been content on his own, focusing on his art and his day job, and passing his free time watching the surfers who show up every morning while he sketches on the beach. Will has always been a sucker for all things art. Be it sketches, paintings, sculptures—he loves it all and wishes to have the talent to express himself using all forms of art.
In terms of classic beauty, there is no contest. No competition. Not a single thing in the entire world could make Will choose something else over Mike like this.
Ancient sculptors would have killed to carve his body out of marble. Hell, Will even has the burning urge to learn how to sculpt himself. Painting Mike isn’t enough—canvas could burn. Mike needs to be cast in stone.

In the year and a half they spent apart Mike's climbed back into his shell and Will has broken out of his. And they've only fallen more in love with the distance. It very quickly becomes a problem.

Mike needs to know. To wait for Will.
There’s been numerous moments in his life where he’d felt threatened in his status as someone important in Will’s life. He admits, most of it was due to his own actions. Whenever he acted out during their earlier teens, Will would drift away, and it was then difficult for Mike to fix his mistakes.
He’d apologize, but then never take the next step for Will. Obviously, he’s grown out of it, or has tried to. He’s better with his emotions now that he’s older; but, he’ll have to give credit to this learned habit of his for keeping him intact.
Mike arrives home, scurrying to reach his room; his closet, particularly.
His heart beats slower this time, more calculated as his consciousness realizes the familiarity of this.
Or, Mike is constantly experiencing phantom ruts and he finds out why.

“Why’d you stop?” Will whines, hands going to cup Mike’s face to bring him back to the moment.
Before he can change his mind, Mike reaches over to the nightstand and picks up the vibrating phone. He turns it so Will can take a look for himself and see the caller ID. “It’s Carlton.”
Will’s hands drop. He groans, “Please don’t bring him up right now. I’ll block him later.”
A grin spreads on Mike’s face, shocking Will at the odd reaction but what Mike says next makes his jaw drop. "No, no. Why don’t you answer it?”
“You want us to stop fucking so I can answer his call?” Will inquires, tremendously bewildered at the suggestion.
Mike’s smile diminishes into something more taunting, his irises twinkling with mischievous excitement. Will’s stomach drops.
“Oh, baby. Who said anything about stopping?”
He tilts the phone so they can both watch as Mike presses down on the green button with his thumb, sliding it across the screen to answer the call.
Mike hands him the phone and harshly thrusts back into him.

He and Will were at his house without the rest of the party. Dustin was spending the day with his mother since it's her birthday meanwhile Max and Lucas had a date they'd been planning for a long time, so when Mike called, only Will said he was free.
That's how they ended up in his bedroom with a diskette that Mike should definitely not have and the door locked.
