“Alright,” you say, elevating your voice so that you can be heard amongst the impersonators, “Is this everyone who wants to go in the competition?”
You watch to see a wave of bobbing heads, all accepting the gauntlet that has been passed to them, and are about to usher them in an orderly manner up to the stage. You open your mouth only to be interrupted.
“Sorry! Room for one more?” You turn to the figure that the other contestants are eyeing over your shoulder, and turn to look up into a face that you’ve been seeing all day. There’s something special about this one—maybe it’s the chiseled jaw, the piercing blue eyes, the perfectly coiffed, slick black hair. He’s got to be at least the third, second best guy you’ve seen so far.
“You’re just in time,” you grin up at him. “Let me guess, Bruce Wayne?”
The man shares a knowing, conspiratorial smile with you—he could almost be the real deal, you think to yourself. “The one and only.”

You just finished your Masters of Music at Gotham University, hoping your sub job with the Gotham Opera and a couple of gigs will help pay off your student debt. No dice. Even with how cheap Gotham rent is, you still have to pick up a job at a coffee shop in the Upper West Side. Online training never prepared you for the kind of patrons you'd see though, and nothing could have prepared you for the interest of a billionaire family in the locally owned shop you worked in.

Summary
The turning of the year 1999 into 2000 was supposed to shepherd in dramatic change, whether it be culturally or personally, the osmosis inherent as the century ended and a new one began. Then, in late April, a series of explosions rocked downtown Gotham, killing the adopted son of billionaire Bruce Wayne.
A week afterwards, a vigilante hero that had only previously been seen in glimpses around Blüdhaven, was spotted racing across rooftops in Gotham's uppermost island.
Four months later, as the late August heat swept across the city, the beloved daughter of Gotham's mayor washed up on the western beach along Gotham River, covered in only a clear sheet of plastic.
A week after the girl's murder, a detective from New York arrived in Gotham to investigate.
