How strange it was to see his own visage with lips curled into song, hands cradling a guitar, in a place so far away while they’d also never been closer.
Technoblade was an only child.

Summary
Tommy knew something was going to go wrong at some point. He knew there was going to be some incident where he would do something unforgivable by accident, without meaning to, and he would get wrongfully thrown out. Tommy was just speeding up the process; Techno and Phil had welcomed him into their arctic commune, and while the alliance was shaky at first, it slowly solidified into something more than just allies. Tommy had caught himself almost calling Phil dad multiple times, and once or twice for Technoblade, too. Oh, maybe that would actually get him kicked out. He needed to remember that.
But Tommy never tried anything that would outright hurt his roommates - no arson, he told himself, no sabotaging them in their sleep. He wanted to get kicked out before something like that happened in an accident and it was pinned on him. That’s the kind of thing he was trying to avoid.
Or, in the middle of trying to get himself kicked out of the commune, Tommy accidentally gets therapy.

Before the worst night of their lives, it was complicated enough. Kaitlyn wanted to sleep with Ryan, Ryan wouldn’t have minded sleeping with Kaitlyn but was also somewhat intrigued by Dylan, and Dylan was falling a little in love with Ryan. For ten minutes, alone around a firepit, they were definitely thinking about a threesome.
But then the worst night of their lives happened.
Now Kaitlyn is angry, dragging her emotional support Dylan down her path toward mental health, Ryan is fine and doesn’t need anyone, as long as he doesn’t talk to Dylan ever again, and it turns out no one ever really knew what Dylan was thinking in the first place, so maybe nothing’s changed there.

As conversation kicks up, topics are brought up between friends, like "hey what's that podcast about," "hey, how is it being an openly gay guy," and "hey, are you ready to go back to the cabin now?"

That actually stopped any other arguments forming in Ryan’s head. “You’re… You’re playing the what now?”
“The sympathy card,” Dylan repeated, raising his bandage-covered arm into the air. “I am injured. I am in hospital. Therefore, I get to play the sympathy card, in which you have to give in to whatever I request because I am hurt and poorly.”
“Dylan—”
“And I am using my sympathy card to request you sleep with me,” Dylan asserted with all the confidence in the world. For all of about five seconds, before he realized what he had said. “Wait, not like that. I mean — yes like that, but I do not have it in me right now. I mean, with all these drugs pumping through my blood, I’m not even sure I could get it u—”

It was against Techno’s nature, as a siamese fighting mer, to let others so close. Phil was the exception, as the mer who saved his life, but there wasn’t supposed to be anyone else.
And then, one day, Phil came home with a tiny bundle of teeth and claws, and Techno's dormant soul-scales finally lit up. The intricate white all along his tale and going up his sides; swirls and dots all coming together in a delicately perfected pattern, glowed like the sea-lanterns that lit their cave. A rush of emotion rolled through him, and he couldn't help but tip closer, peeking at the little hurting mer in Phil's arms.
"Techno," Phil said softly, and the mer shifted, blinking two huge bright blue eyes at him, "meet Tommy."
