Summary
Emily needs the quiet. Peace, to distract her from what's lurking underneath the surface, waiting patiently for her control to slip so it can rear up to swallow her, and have her whole. She's never come around to figure out how to deal with what happened to her and the many ways in which she had happened to others – she'd just leave, move on, always on the run.
It is her lack of attachment that makes her so effective, she thinks. The conscience she can turn on and off like a switch. The irreparable damage Ian Doyle has done to her humanity.
The final nail Lauren Reynolds hammered into the coffin housing her soul.
A semi-retelling of the series with Emily as its focal character. Includes a grimmer take on Emily's backstory, mild to severe deviation from canon, as well as an alternate exploration of Emily's trauma and its many consequences. Updates sporadically.

Truthfully, you're not sure when it begins.
It could have been the night you witnessed your first murder, hiding behind the bannister, staring through the gaps. To this day, you can count the number of angry veins on the hand that gripped the knife, the way they pulsed, filled with righteous anger and blind fury. The way her fingers were wrapped around the handle, knuckles white and taut, thin skin stretching over muscle and bone.
You wonder how they would feel if they were to brush against your skin without layers upon layers of clothing muting their touch.
Ask yourself what she would do if you were to take her hands, place them around your neck and beg her to squeeze.

Summary
She is a curious case though, Haruno Sakura, who has no clan legacy to speak of yet effortlessly keeps up with children who were born to outclass her, and even though such cases exist, they're rare, if not almost entirely unheard of. More than once she is brought in for testing and she cannot count the times she tells her teachers that no, they don't have shinobi in the family, no the Haruno aren't a secret clan from another country and no, she hasn't received training from anyone else.
(The possibility that it might be neither of her parents she gets it from but someone else entirely, well, doesn't really occur to anyone until much, much later.)
A (somewhat) unusual soulmate story featuring loving female friendships, problematic children, and a serious lack of respect for life and death situations.
