Summary

Regulus scoffs. The idiocy of the question deserves a hearty eye roll, but he’s trained himself not to do that in front of strangers. Or anyone, really. Except maybe the animals—it’s not like they mind.
“I’m a taxidermist,” he says, firmly.
“Which is exactly what I meant to say!” James grins like they know each other, and Regulus decides this must be the universe’s idea of a practical joke. Either that or he’s having a very convincing nightmare, the floor about to split open and swallow him whole.

“And this is Remus,” Poppy says when she realizes that he is not about to pause his work without being asked to.
So Remus looks up.
And something just stops.
Sirius Black has a stupid name and long black hair and he is wearing a light gray button down that makes the gray of his eyes really stand out. High cheekbones and flush lips and long eyelashes makes him pretty in a highly androgynous way and Remus feels the need to clench his jaw tightly.
Remus may be petty, and he may be angry, but he was never one to be impolite so he stands up to shake the newbie's hand. It’s all long slim fingers that look porcelain in his scarred hand and it feels wrong.
The two of them are not supposed to hold hands, touch skin, exist in the same dimensional plane - that much is very clear to Remus who just says, “Remus. Welcome.”

Sirius Black is many things - intelligent, witty, playful, and yes, sometimes a little harsh but some people deserve to feel a sharp sting every now and then.
Unfortunately, he's also an omega, destined to provide heirs for the House of Black and nothing more. It should be known that Sirius Black is also stubborn and capricious and refuses to bend to anyone's will, so the House of Black can get fucked.It's 500BC and omega's rights are rather dismal. Dismal being akin to non-existent. Sirius flees from his family's iron clutch and stumbles into the path of Remus Lupin, an alpha from the Wildlands like Sirius has never met before: gentle and kind and expecting nothing in return; nothing like the entitled nobles he's accustomed to. Travelling together seems like a good idea.

Sirius coughed, a harsh noise around his words. “Pleasure, I’m sure.”
Remus hummed, a grin still playing across his mouth. He was enjoying this far too much. “Well, let’s get you patched up, since you fell from the sky and all.”

Something at home in long balmy nights, and mornings when the gardens teem with life and song. Wonderfully out of place in the winter: a happy visitor to the season, an ember in the frost.
Christmastime in the Cotswolds: cold hands, crackling fires, and Remus's indefatigable quest for parsnips.

The two idiots cooing at one another across the way have that covered—great.
He’s pretty sure he heard Sirius comparing James to the sun the other weekend, pissed off vodka cranberries, and crying. So that’s taken as well. Barty is running out of metaphors as Evan sits and bumps his hip with his own, getting him to scoot further over in his chair.
Both of them are sitting on one side of the table now. Evan takes a cherry between his teeth, bites it from the stem, and flicks the stem onto the table. It lands right next to Barty’s keys and wallet, just touching.
He looks over and meets Barty’s eye.
They're not the sun and moon or stars in the night sky; Barty and Evan are both black holes.

The stag has settled under Remus' touch now that he seems to have understood no one is pulling out a butcher’s knife and gutting it open. It is observing all of this with very curious, glassy, judgemental eyes.
Regulus glares at it. “Don’t look at me like this, my dude. You’re the one who tried to die.”
The stag, if possible, narrows its eyes. Then bleats in Remus’ face in complaint.
“Shh, you dumb beast,” Remus soothes.
