“But I think you could use a little help distracting yourself,” Goro says against Akira’s skin.
“Yeah?” A tired smile quirks the corner of Akira’s mouth. “Do you have something in mind?” He tips his head, intending to catch Goro’s lips again, but Goro suddenly rises, leaving Akira’s entire front cold. He watches his boyfriend wander over to a stack of boxes with various cleaning tools laid out on top and he almost laughs. “Alright, I get it.” He starts to stand. “Let’s finish—”
“Sit.”
Akira’s body obeys automatically, dropping back down on the mattress before his brain can catch up.
Goro doesn’t even look back at him, wholly absorbed in contemplating the cleaning implements. “I must say—” he drawls, reaching out to select something, “—this place looks a lot different than it did the last time I was here.” He turns, revealing the feather duster cradled delicately in one hand. “Master.”

Following Maruki’s overhaul on reality, Goro Akechi posthumously reappears and is given another chance: join the Phantom Thieves to defeat Maruki and, most importantly, live another day. The latter is the more difficult task for the man, presumably navigating life in a lonely, fabricated reality and, more often than not, doing so in the arms of his most captivating foe, Akira Kurusu.

Summary
If there was one thing Goro wished for, it was to spend more time with Akira—his rival and his only genuine bond. But he knew his boundaries and his worth. After all, the villain is never destined to be with the hero. There was no such thing as a happy ending for someone like him, a murderer. He deserved this, he thought to himself as his vision dimmed in the dark, gloomy engine room.
Imagine his surprise when Goro came back, very much alive, on December 24th. Well, if he was destined to die, why not indulge himself one last time?
In third semester, Goro realizes his greatest wish is to be with Akira. It had always been him, hadn't it?

Summary
“Akira,” Goro says calmly, and Akira finally finds the strength to meet his eyes.
It’s scary, but the world doesn’t end. His eyes are familiar, a comfort, and it scares him more how easily they soothe him, because no matter how hard he searches, he can’t find any concrete evidence on whether they’re real or not. Goro’s eyes are firm and genuine. In direct contrast, his calm demeanor radiates off of him where Akira knows his own terror must be pouring off in waves. Despite that, Akira can see his concern in the determined searching of his eyes, and the tension of his brows.
That Akira knows that if something was totally and utterly wrong with the world around him, that if Goro had come to the same conclusions that he had, he wouldn’t be looking at him like this, makes him want to trust it so bad. That, and the feeling that he owes it to him to say something, lets him overcome himself enough to speak.
“Is this…” he chokes on his words. He tries again, hands squeezing, “Are you real?”

It couldn’t be, he thought hauntingly, willing his locked-up legs to press forward. Any logical conclusion Akira could come to was practically thrown out the window at that moment as he braced a hand against the countertop, taking in just what was displayed before him.
Because standing in his doorway, bleeding profusely from a wound on his leg, was Goro Akechi.

Summary
While preparing for Maruki’s Palace, Akechi invites Akira to train in Mementos. With Maruki’s own resolve becoming stronger everyday, Akira knows recent status ailments have become a pain for everyone involved, becoming cocktails of multiple ailments.
Akira realizes he has to fight a brainwashed Akechi and tries to run from his feelings, they catch up quite fast though.

“… How long was I unconscious?”
It was a normal thing to question. He feigned a softer tone to his voice, still adjusting his heavy eyelids and acknowledging Kurusu with a plaintive look in his eyes. Akechi needed to appear clueless rather than annoyed; someone who'd only gotten to know the Metaverse in the past month and had carelessly been bested by some shadow or another.
Even the Detective Prince wouldn't choose to linger in this shoddy clinic, he thought. Or maybe no facet of himself could tolerate being this close, this vulnerable, under Akira’s scrutiny. The surface of his skin continued to pulse with unfamiliarity and the sharp pain in his leg only fuelled his anger further.
He needed to get out of here.
Akechi is carelessly injured in Mementos. He awakens in a patient's bed in Takemi Medical Clinic with a worried Joker staring right at him. They are both a little reluctant to leave.

Summary
Akira is no stranger to nightmares. They just usually don't rattle him as much as this one did. The echoes of Maruki's reality still live in his head, even though the biggest consequence he faced for his decision has since turned out to be a lie. That does mean, of course, that Akechi is alive and well and can absolutely call him on the phone exactly when Akira least wants him to.
He usually tries not to talk too much, either. Not to reveal too much when it's unnecessary. Akechi gets it out of him anyways. He always does.
The only thing Akira would feel more anxious about is if Akechi then decided to invite himself over in the middle of the night.

Akira is tired, he’d much rather walk his bruised body up the creaky cafe stairs and lay uncomfortably on his sorry excuse of a bed until he passes out than experiencing whatever berating Akechi is about to give him.
Akira, stubbornly, foolishly, tells no one he's feeling under the weather. He pays the price, leaving him at the mercy of his own complexes. It doesn't help that Akechi has some choice words for him.

He glanced up as the silence hung a moment too long, ready for his dismissal, and saw an internal war taking place behind Akechi's eyes instead.
Finally, "Come with me." and Akechi turned on a heel and marched away.
Akira blinked, caught off guard. Akechi didn't turn to check Akira was doing as tasked, so sure that he would. Akira smiled fondly. Akechi's choice surprised him, but it was far from unwelcome.
He jogged to catch up, settling at Akechi's side. He didn't even think to ask where Akechi was leading him, just… content to be at his side again.
