His body was heavy, drowsy, as if he had slept for far too long. How long was he asleep for? He could barely feel the hard pelt of rain on his skin as he wiggled his fingers, and then his toes. He couldn’t even see past the blurriness that seemed to be a permanent part of his eyesight.
“Cloud… please.”

They're settled and fine, but even so they get parted too often. A few days stretching into a few weeks where Zack gets little more than a murmured goodbye as Cloud slips off for work in the morning while he recovers from a night on the road.
“Time is it?” Cloud whispers. He twines himself around Zack, arms and hands covered in soft cotton. The sweater he’s wearing is so big it must be one of Zack’s, must only be wearing it because Zack isn’t there.
“After three,” Zack says. “I didn’t mean to wake you.”Alternatively: Zack accidentally wakes Cloud in the middle of the night, but it works out okay in the end.

That resolve lasts about 20 minutes. Kakashi ought to be impressed with his restraint, Obito reasons, as he phases clear through to the records room. ‘Doing the right thing’ is a matter of perspective.
