Summary
To that woman at the shop, Merlin is going home to someone who loves him. The Merlin in her mind might spend the night eating cheap Chinese takeaway with Arthur, arms curled around each others’ shoulders while they watch a film. Merlin surprises him with a special Assam blend. Arthur hops in the shower with him and runs his fingers through his hair. They fall asleep together, and Arthur makes him truly atrocious eggs on toast in the morning, and Merlin gets to be loved back.
Suddenly, Merlin wants to live in that world. He wants it so badly he feels sick.
(Or: Merlin tells his coworkers that Arthur is his boyfriend. Predictably, it backfires).

Will runs a hand through his wet hair, salt water dripping off the ends and down his neck and shoulders. "Holy shit," Mike whispers under his breath. Max hears him, throwing her head back with a laugh.
"Told you," Max replies, crossing her arms over her chest.

The Byers and The Mayfield's moved back to California after everything ended. Mike's been an asshole since Jane died and gets sent to live with Will and his family for the summer. In the year and a half they spent apart Mike's climbed back into his shell and Will has broken out of his. And they've only fallen more in love with the distance. It very quickly becomes a problem.

One of Mike’s hands cards through his hair, nails scratching scalp, and Will feels like he’s dissolving, like he’s cotton candy on Mike’s tongue.
Belatedly, Will gestures at the lamp. “Should I—”
“Keep it on,” Mike says in a firm, heady baritone that hits Will like liquor, and pulls Will back in by the roots of his hair.
