The light casts upon her mistress like a halo, a visage unworthy for mortal eyes. Her skin seems diaphanous beneath the light. Her barrettes are wings clipped from the angels.
She is ethereal. Her power goes beyond human or enhanced being. But Columbina is no seraphim.
Still, Arlecchino wants to kneel before her.
Arlecchino is Columbina's most devout worshipper, regardless of circumstances.

there is another, much more obvious explanation, of course. not quite a fault in his design, yet one that humiliates him regardless. the electricity within him hums with confusion—and certainly not embarrassment—before ultimately rationalizing. if braiding was a pattern coded into him, in the name of maintaining the state of his once-long hair, it was only natural his body would respond when presented with the opportunity. his body likely does not recognize that said hair is not his own; he was never meant to wander amongst mortals, after all.
before he can finish explaining to himself what he’s doing, a small braid has been formed behind sethos’ temple.
(scara is unable to sleep the night sethos is due to leave on an expedition, and leaves the latter with an impromptu gift for his journey.)

“I’m afraid it doesn’t work like that,” Dr. Walthers said. “There is a surgery, but you have to have stable vision for at least a year before we can even look into it. Right now, glasses are your only option.”
Leo stared up at the ceiling, blaming the blurriness on his apparently shitty vision and the hell juice Dr. Walthers had inflicted upon him. Glasses. He was going to have to wear glasses, the exact thing he teased Jason about on a bi-weekly basis, at least. All because his stupid eyes had managed to fail at the one god damn thing they were supposed to do. He took in a deep, shaky breath and swallowed thickly. His life was, for the second time, officially over.

Leo's life has been far, far more difficult that it was supposed to be, but that was fine because he was difficult-er. He could handle it. What he couldn't handle was his boyfriend's puppydog eyes begging him to go see a doctor. So, he goes, he plays nice with the sadists in white coats. He is woefully unprepared for his diagnosis.

Unfortunately, this was one of the irritatingly frequent times where Drew didn’t get her way. Instead, she was driving through a torrential downpour at 10:00 at night on a Thursday, hungry and ticked off. And now she was stuck at a red light that seemed like it was programmed to last forever while she let all zero of the other cars on the road take their well-deserved turn.
She scowled out the window at the empty street when she noticed a bus shelter at the corner. More specifically, there was someone sitting on the bench, fruitlessly huddled against the rain, which Drew thought was odd, seeing as the city buses quit running at 9:30 on weekdays. She squinted a little harder at the uncomfortably small form for a moment before she felt a rock solidify in her gut. She knew those curls and chicken limbs from all the times Piper had insisted on her “very best friend in the whole world” spending the night at their house. Drew knew, without a doubt, that she was staring at the one and only Leo Valdez.

“No!” Annabeth snaps, her hand darting out to grab the stem before it can retreat any farther. She focuses very hard on not squeezing it tight enough to bruise the delicate thing. “You said you got it for me, so it’s mine now.”

Over the years, Percy keeps giving Annabeth flowers, and Annabeth keeps each and every one, even on quests, even during battles, even when they’re wandering through the Labyrinth and Rachel is there and she’s so, so mad at him for being such a boy. She always makes sure to tuck them behind her ear or pin them to her shirt or weave them into her hair before she carefully preserves them, tucking them between the pages of an architecture textbook now that her encyclopedia is more flower than fact. Every time Percy sees her proudly wearing his gifts, his face lights up and Annabeth’s heart warms like a cat lounging in the sun.

But at camp they had built a new life for themselves, they were a family against all the odds. And no matter what threat faced camp, they were all willing to fight tooth and nail to keep their home, and their family, safe.

“You love differently, Jason,” Nico continues. “That’s all it is.”
“That’s not all it is,” Jason says. He stares at the ceiling, thinking of all of his friends that are waiting for them to come back to the surface.
He knows there are different loves—sisterly love, for Thalia and Persephone. Parental love, like Emily and Esperanza, and Hades, platonic love for Leo and Piper, familial love for the pack, emotional love, for Nico. And then there’s sex, but even making love felt more emotional than just getting off.
He loves being able to wake up to Nico as much as he loves watching Nico tilt his head back in pleasure. Maybe more so, because he gets to fall asleep beside his boyfriend and repeat the cycle—of waking up and falling a little deeper in love with Nico.
“What do you think it is?” Nico asks him, when he’s quiet too long.
“I’m not sure yet,” Jason admits. “But I’m close.”

The weight of it is heavy—it’s why Percy was adamant he shouldn’t lift a finger, why every conversation with Piper and Leo this past summer began with asking how he was feeling, why Thalia insisted on staying at Camp Halfblood a week instead of the one day that Jason had grown used to, and why Nico sometimes still wakes him up just to make sure he isn’t dead. Eventually, the days where he’s alive again will outgrow the ones where he wasn’t, and Jason thinks he’ll never be that two-year-old little boy who wandered around the woods crying for his mom and sister again. Crying for someone to find him.
one of the most beautiful character studies I’ve ever read with like crazy touching prose this is CRAZY
