Summary
Northern Italy, 1982.
Viktor returns to his hometown for summer break from university. The year of distance has done little to dull what he feels for his best friend, and being back at his side will put Viktor’s unruly heart up to the challenge once again.
Meanwhile, Jayce has spent that same year learning just how quiet life can be without Viktor in it. But why does he think about the other boy so often? No. There is nothing weird about missing his friend. He is not weird.

Orphaned at a young age, Viktor is adopted by Ximena and taken into his best friend's family. In the Talis house, as loving as it is God-fearing, Viktor found comfort in sharing a bedroom with the closest person he still had. Their bond only grows stronger, inevitably becoming too overwhelming for one, and too addictive for the other.

What has Viktor done to deserve this? At what point did Jayce come to value him so highly? Somehow, this bond of theirs grew so gradually, so subtly, escaping Viktor’s notice as it entwined itself into every facet of their lives, strangling all else with its roots until only its verdant bloom remained.
“Let me go, Jayce.”
The grip on him tightens. “I won’t.”
No. He’s made that quite clear. Viktor lacks the strength to shake him off; if he tried, Jayce would surely release him, but to rob Jayce of his sole source of comfort would not be right, nor good, and so Viktor waits. A minute passes, then two, then four.
The rune swallows them up, and abandons them in an unfamiliar land. Is this not what they wanted? With naught but the clothes on their backs, they are left to wander. To wonder.

Jayce does not like to dwell on the surreality of Viktor’s new visage. He hates dwelling on Viktor’s death even more.
Instead, he focuses on this feeling—on the weight of Viktor’s body leaning against his. On the lulling smell of ozone left after thundering rain. On Viktor, Viktor, Viktor.
Jayce brings the Hexcore to Viktor's body, and through their fusion, Viktor survives. Affection holds them together for just a little while longer. (Or: Season 2 Act 1, extended for the worse).
