Summary
Buck’s first thought when he wakes up with a stuffy nose, a sore throat and a pounding headache is that this can’t be fucking happening. Not today, of all days. Not on the day he’s supposed to finally go on a date with Eddie Diaz.
He’s been waiting for this for years and he will absolutely not be stopped by a goddamn cold of all things.
No. He’s going to be fine.

So they make their way to the next cage, and when Eddie’s eyes land on the dog inhabiting it, they widen slightly as he recoils.
It’s…a rat. That’s the only way Eddie knows how to describe it, though it does kind of feel like an insult to all rats.
Listen. Eddie isn’t one to judge others, including dogs, by their looks. It’s the inside that counts, and all that stuff. And he really does believe that! It’s just that this dog — if it can even be called that — is just about the ugliest looking creature he’s ever laid eyes upon. (Except for Tommy maybe, but thankfully he doesn’t have to deal with his face anymore.)

Or: Buck and Eddie think about adopting a dog and Buck ends up falling in love with the ugliest one of them all.

“Holy shit,” Chimney says, grabbing Hen’s arm like he needs to make sure she’s getting this. “So you guys killed our captain?”
“No!” Eddie and Buck say simultaneously.
“We were just…we…,” Buck tries before looking at Eddie for help. Eddie opens his mouth to explain that no, they did not kill their captain but—
“Okay, well, I guess we…,” he says with a grimace. “I guess we kind of killed our captain.”
“Eddie!” Buck snaps.
“What?” Eddie snaps back, throwing his hands up in frustration. “I mean, I don’t think the guy would’ve had a heart attack today if it wasn’t for us.”

Or: Buck and Eddie accidentally give their homophobic captain a heart attack.

Summary
They were trapped.
Fire hadn’t broken through yet, but it was coming. Buck could feel the heat pushing in, wrapping around them like a warning. The smoke thickened, clawing at their throats, painting the walls with a haze of panic.
“So…” Eddie’s voice cut through the haze, rough around the edges but maddeningly calm. “You wanna talk about it now?”
Buck turned slowly, disbelief etched across every exhausted line of his face, and he hoped his deadpan glare said it all. He didn’t need to ask what Eddie was referring to.
No, he didn’t want to talk about how he accidentally told his best friend he loved him just hours earlier.
He’d rather let the fire take him.
A season 9 two-part opening emergency, in which a group of hijackers takeover Station 118.

It’s a stupid decision, but with Chris and Eddie in his head, on his mind at all times he makes the appointment without hesitation.
But when it’s done, when his skin feels raw, his thigh almost shaking with it he finally gets to look at it and it’s everything he wanted. Without shame he tears up right there in front of the mirror and his artist pats his arm and asks what he thinks.
“It’s perfect.” Buck rasps

Detective Evan Buckley has had four mentors in the year since he passed the detective exam, and not a single one of them has wanted to keep him on longer than a few months. All he wants is to be better at his job and have someone actually care to teach him the finer parts of his new path.

“What’s going on? Did I miss something, or–” Tommy starts, chuckling lightly.
“Yeah actually, I think you did.” Eddie’s voice carries across the loft, shutting up Tommy immediately. It’s much more accusatory and pointed than before, not a hint of wariness to it. Eddie takes his time as he stalks back over into the open plan kitchen and dining room area, shaking the bottle in front of him as he does.
“Ibuprofen.”
Tommy looks between the bottle and Eddie’s stoic face, still completely clueless. “Yeah? That’s what it says on the label.”
Buck hardly hears Tommy say this to Eddie, the word Ibuprofen echoing around the walls of his mind. Oh, God.
— — —
Or
When Buck wakes up with boils on his face, he calls Eddie to check it out. It is when Eddie finds out that Tommy gave Buck ibuprofen, one of the medications that can trigger Buck’s allergy to naproxen, that hell breaks loose.

Buck doesn’t know what to say other than, “Help.”

Oh.
“Buddy,” Eddie says, “I don’t really know if that’s my thing.”
Christopher looks at him, then down at his feet and mumbles something.
“Didn’t catch that, kiddo,” Eddie says, reaching out and pressing two fingers under Chris’ chin to tilt his face back up.
“I said,” Christopher says, “I want to nominate Buck.”

Summary
Hitting the pavement hard enough to bruise the muscles in his back will never compare to opening his eyes and seeing nothing in color as he blinks the pouring rain out of his eyes. The residing pain made his arm shake from feeling the lightning go through his skin.
He could feel the vibrations and the ache in his head. His helmet was gone, and he grabbed it more out of reflex than anything else, knowing without a doubt that he needs it. Muscle memory telling him so.
But none of it compares to looking up and seeing Buck hanging there and only seeing him in black and white. The night sky behind him seems even darker, and his entire world feels like it’s halting. Freezing as the rain hits his face, but it’s as though he doesn’t even feel it. Eddie thinks that he may not feel anything at all.

Summary
“You kissed me,” Eddie finally whispers.
“I did,” Buck responds, his voice full of something Eddie can’t quite read. Buck sounds almost accusatory as he adds, “You kissed me back.”
And Eddie knows he has no defence, because Buck’s not wrong.
“I did,” Eddie confirms, breath hitching in his chest. “I kissed you back.”
And what the hell is he supposed to do with that?

“Are you alright?” Someone asked, voice smooth and so familiar like a balm to the ache in her heart and the markings on her body.
Rumi blinked her eyes open, glancing up to find a very familiar face staring back at her. “Jinu,” she breathed out and Jinu gently helped her up to her feet.

“Are you seriously asking me the size of my dick?” Buck asks incredulously, huffing out a laugh. “God, you’re gonna regret this tomorrow.”
“Regret what?” Eddie asks, looking adorably confused.
“Look, forget about the dick cactus,” Buck says, in disbelief at the words coming out of his mouth. “It’s the middle of the night and we both need to get some sleep.”
For a moment it looks like Eddie’s going to cooperate, but no, of course it’s not going to be that easy.

(Wine night at Hen and Karen's results in an adorably drunk Eddie demanding Buck come over and cuddle him in the middle of the night.)

Summary
“Are you kidding me?” Tommy interrupts. “You’re both going to sit there and ignore me after whatever the hell that was?”
“Well, you were doing such a good job with all the ignoring you were doing earlier that I just had to give it a go myself,” Eddie says snarkily. “How’d I do?”
Tommy sputters.
“You tell him, bro!” a voice calls out from a few rows back, and Buck snorts out a laugh.
It draws Tommy’s attention, unfortunately.
“You think this is funny?” Tommy asks, towering over them both. “Cheating on me right in front of my face?"
"Does it really count as cheating?" the woman beside Eddie mutters, looking away hastily when Tommy glares at her.
*
(Buck's soon-to-be-ex-boyfriend chooses to ignore him every time the kiss cam points in their direction. Eddie does the opposite.)
