Summary
I couldn't help but think when we saw Tony heal himself in Infinity War with his suit, that we hadn't seen it before. I realise it might have been because of Peter joining the team but this is my take.
In battle, Natasha gets badly hurt. Bucky, desperate to save her, tells Tony he must have something in the suit to help her.
He doesn't.
But he won't make that mistake again.
He adds the nanotechnology to his suit so if there is ever a situation like that again he won't be left to watch helplessly as his friend bleeds out.
This is the series of events that changes how Tony sees his suits forever.
Blood and violence ahead and lots of Natasha whump and caring Avengers (especially Bucky and Steve).

Their captor is smug, sadistic,... and he seems to be one step ahead all the time.
Between torture that brings out their weaknesses more than any supervillain did before, and time threatening to run out, escape is necessary, yet seems impossible.I torture Nat for fun, and ruin Clint's mental health for the next twenty years. Steve is conflicted, and Tony tries being neutral and fails miserably.
(This is, in my personal opinion, the best I've done so far, even though I ripped my heart out in the process)
