"Hunter." Gus stresses. He sits down. "What year are you born in?"
Hunter frowns. "1636." Gus nods.
"Okay," He repeats, slowly. "Now how old are you?"
Hunter scowls, batting his hand away. "Why are you looking at me like that? I'm sixteen. Obviously."
"No." The fear in Gus's voice begins to scare him as well. "Try again."
Or, my attempt at addressing the plotline regarding Hunter's identity as a clone of Belos's dead brother. The missing season 3 episode, if you will.

Three days after Hunter died, Darius took his chair away from the dining room table and put it in the basement.
“Why?” Alador asked when he saw it missing.
Darius just shrugged.
“You had that chair before you adopted –”
“I know.”
“But then why –”
“Just drop it, Alador.”
Darius struggles to cope after Hunter's unexpected and untimely death. Alador tries to help him, while also learning about what made Hunter so special to his friends and loved ones.

Hunter hadn’t moved from his spot of staring down at his lap, but he was clenching his hands close to his chest now. “I have seven days.”
The man furrowed his brows. “What do you mean? Seven days until what?”
He didn’t answer, he just stared down blankly, biting his lip as a tear made its way down his cheek.
Darius’ eyes widened as the puzzle pieces started clicking together. Illegal potion dealers. Time constraint. Ending Elixir. Seven days.
They’d given Hunter a poison potion.
Hunter was going to die.
Hunter was poisoned and had seven days to live. Maybe less.
He was going to die.

Summary
After Belos has been defeated, the Collector has left to find their siblings and the rebuilding of the Boiling Isles has begun, Hunter develops some concerning behaviours. Luz and his friends are worried about him. He won't stop working, is growing steadily more distant and refuses to talk about his new scars or how he got them. They figure that he just needs some time and space to work through his emotions now that he has the opportunity. Grief affects everyone differently, after all, and Hunter is not only grieving for Flapjack, he is grieving for a life he never got to experience because of Belos. His friends are eager to help him whenever he is ready to let them. Yet when one of his scars becomes infected as a result of his unhealthy coping mechanisms and Hunter falls ill, they might not get that chance.
