“Hi! Sorry I’m a little late,” Kaveh said breathlessly, bright and unapologetic. “Whoever designed your lobby is an asshole - it’s like a corporate minotaur’s labyrinth. I got lost twice.”
“I like the lobby.”
“Of course you do,” Kaveh muttered.
Kaveh was exactly as troublesome as his work. Everything about him was too golden, too confident, too alive for a room full of grayscale - hair like a decadent brushstroke, hands that moved as if drawing invisible lines in the air with every careless gesture.
In other words, a man who made space bend around him.
“Our meeting began two minutes ago,” Alhaitham said flatly. “Though I suppose I should have anticipated that you’d be the kind of person to make an entrance.”
Kaveh simply smiled, sharp and sunlit. “And I suppose I should’ve anticipated that you’re the kind of person who’s profoundly bothered by two minutes of tardiness.”

“Him,” Veritas says. “Him. Not it.”
His attacker lets out a hollow laugh. “Him? That there isn’t a person but a Trojan horse. A pretty facade with rotten insides, ready to open our doors to a horde of others of its kind.”
Veritas’ hands tighten into fists at his side. “You know nothing about him.”

Felix, ever unimpressed, just scoffed.
"Clearly you do, or you'll just wear a hole in the floor pacing back and forth," he said. "Just go to sleep."
Dimitri reached for Felix, one still gloved hand resting on the swordsman's shoulder. Felix was unyielding as a statue beneath him; he might as well have been carved from ice. Dimitri was used to that kind of hard exterior, though. He was undeterred.
"What was your plan, Felix, if I refused?" he asked, voice low.

Tighnari’s jaw snaps shut. They both watch in silence as Al-Haitham, ritual worshiper of the daily workplace routine, a transcendently habitual creature set in his ways since the moment he accepted this job offer, reaches thoughtlessly into his desk organizer for a pen and instead comes up with three-quarters of a pastel blue crayon.
Al-Haitham pauses. He looks down at the crayon in his hand; then, at the document he was about to sign. Next, he casts his gaze across the rest of his desk, where it lands on a sheet of scratch-n-sniff stickers in place of his post-its and a heart-shaped hole punch replacing his stapler. His hand visibly twitches.
I will get you, he mouths at Kaveh. Then he puts down the crayon and signs the phrase without breaking eye contact, just to be thorough.
Good luck, moron, Kaveh signs back. Then he blows a kiss.
Al-Haitham and Kaveh have a totally normal and mature workplace prank war of totally normal and mature proportions.

It’s all rather refreshing, as though nothing had really changed. The journey to the bath and back to bed is an arduous task at best, and Aventurine doesn’t begin to fool himself into thinking he’s in any fit state to do anything much more than this for now, but Ratio’s company is a welcomed one, if only in the way it always has been.
Maybe, in another life, they might have made for quite the formidable pair. Oh, well.

Aventurine had to blink back tears.
“Aventurine,” Ratio said, soft, sincere. But then, Ratio was always sincere with him when it counted, “Dearest.”
That nickname. It was stupid to get so emotional over it. And yet.
Aventurine took a shuddering breath, “Yes?”
His heart was pounding almost painfully. He cared about Ratio way too much.
Ratio held him like he was everything and said, “You need more friends.”
In which, at Ratio's insistence, Aventurine tries to make some friends.

Boothill gasps.
Argenti stills in his ministrations and pulls back, his brow furrowed. It’s been a while, but they’ve done this enough times that he knows all of Boothill’s tells, the way that he moves and thinks. He’s gasped before, yes, but it was mostly performative. This… seems genuine, a shocked sound bubbling from his chest.
“That’s what I was tryin’ to tell you,” he murmurs. Argenti drags a hand down his front, tracing those metal planes, the dings in the finish, the soft little etchings, and screws littered about. Boothill sucks in a breath and squirms underneath the touch, face flushed red with want. His tongue darts out and wets his lips. “A new chip,” he continues. “Fudge, I— they can’t fix the darned language, but they could—I can feel it. You. Your hand, your fingers, that way that you…”
Oh.
