Summary
If there was one rule that all Clones knew, it was the one so obvious that the Kaminoans didn’t even have to teach it: don’t be stupid enough to fall in love with your Jedi.
Upon realising that he had broken this rule, and had been breaking it for a while, Cody did the only logical thing… request his own transfer to another Jedi.
Unfortunately, the Marshall Commander forgot that all transfers must be authorised by the Jedi in charge of the solider who requested it.
Obi-Wan is confused and heartbroken by the transfer request… which somehow leads to the rumour that Cody died in battle.

Obi-Wan had made a terrible mistake kissing Cody. He’d tried to build bridges, brittle and breakable, over caverns that that stretched too wide, and too far into a distance that he couldn’t see and he’d failed. Even with the knowledge that Cody’s eyes, full of love, were on the other side of the void and the fall, he’d never checked to make sure his bridge could take both their weights. And it couldn’t.
Obi-Wan stood up and thought about leaving, but you can’t retreat from your own quarters and a General can’t retreat from his Commander. “Cody I apologise I’ve-”
“Wait Obi-Wan,” Cody said, suddenly grabbing his arm. “Your beard feels like kissing a bush.”
“What?”

Cody doesn’t really get angry.Annoyed, sure.
Frustrated, constantly.
But anger, a true, boiling rage, has only struck him once or twice in his lifetime. Rage provides clarity, but it can make a person sloppy. He’s drilled this lesson into shinies a hundred times over.
The lesson flies out of his head as he takes a heavy step forward. He snags Obi-Wan by the front of his tunics, dragging the General closer. In the back of his mind, a version of him who still answers to CC-2224 is screaming about insubordination and decommissioning and ‘Good soldiers follow orders.’
He ignores it.
“What were you about to say? Hurt? Maimed? Captured? Killed? Go on, General. Tell me precisely how you planned to finish that sentence.”
