Kris looked up again at Susie, the sunset illuminating her features. Her hair shiny in the evening light, her golden eyes brighter as the water shined behind her. But in her arms… was Noelle. Not Kris.
It’s not your place. Kris thought glumly. They pressed their face into the table as the new couple continued to giggle and laugh.

When Susie and Noelle become official, Kris closes themselves off to Susie. They just can't control how jealous they are that their crush is with their childhood friend. After Kris and Susie have an argument, Kris unexpectedly leaves for college. Noelle and Susie plan to join Kris in one year. During that time, Kris works on themselves and finds a new home in the city. But when Kris's time is up and Susie and Noelle arrive in the city, Kris isn't so sure they've moved on from Susie completely.
