Jason feels hands on his palm, soft and warm. Gripping tight, squeezing. Then hands shifting to his legs, bigger ones by his ankle as if holding him down.
“Just hold on, okay?” Jason tries to look at the kid, tries being the keyword. He needs to tell him it’s okay, he’s so brave. That he is doing so good. He needs to tell him he’s sorry and it won’t be his fault. He is so sorry for this and it would never be his fault. Out of focus, he hears the orbs move around and suddenly felt a cold, precise pressure against his side. At first he just hissed and squirmed and hands, both on his palms and his legs, tightened their hold. Then a whirring sound. And then, white-hot burning pain.

He got to the tower using his codes as he’d planned to. It looked empty, but he knew his replacement was in there somewhere. He’d found the boys room, which seemed empty but he knew not to underestimate a Robin. Using his helmets night vision he’d looked around to find the rich little fuck he was about to kill and instead found his own face. Everywhere.
There were photos of him on the wall like how a normal kid would have posters of artists or movies they liked. Photos he doesn’t know could have possibly been taken covering the walls like wallpaper. Some of them were of Dickface and the Big Bat, but most of it was him. It was fucking weird.

Weeks where he can’t quite put it out of his mind. He’s even been wearing a heart monitor on patrol for a while now, just in case he has a potential death on the job. But after a month with no close calls, he’s starting to get impatient. And now he has the perfect opportunity to put it to the test himself. Because for the first time in far too long, he’s going to be Bat free for a bit. After that blowout in the Cave with Bruce, no one is going to question not hearing from him for a while, and all he really needs in a few days to be sure.
