Later, as he was sitting on the toilet, he remembered what Steve had said: February. The wedding was in February. Eddie checked his phone, confirming his suspicion.
December 10th, 2023.
“Fuck,” he swore softly, and then again, “Fuck.”
A little over two months until Steve said I do, binding himself to a total stranger. Eddie wasn’t about to let his best friend get snatched up by someone who was likely not good enough for him, let alone someone Eddie had never heard of. Steve was too kind to be taken advantage of like that — too special.
How things had ended up as they had, Eddie couldn’t be sure, but one way or another, he was going to get to the bottom of it.

Steve Harrington has spent the better part of the last five years knocking out hit after hit for the Assassin's Guild and becoming one of the most lethal agents in the business. After a series of unprecedented, wildly successful cases across the country, his boss pulls him off the active case roster for eight months. He's been keeping tabs on the Chicago Syndicate for years and has finally deemed Steve ready to take out their leader, The Sandman.
The only problem is that undercover agents have been able to turn up little to no information regarding The Sandman's identity. The only information the Guild has been able to dredge up is the name of one of their business fronts: a sophisticated private nightclub called Hellfire, and the name of its director, Syndicate member Eddie Munson.

And when he draws away, Steve is laughing, like it’s genuinely funny. He’s got this light sheen of sweat over his skin, it’s glittering. His hair moves, he pushes it back with his hands as his hips sway in time with the rhythm like he’s commanding it and he moves like a siren; a creature who exists only to lure.
‘I’m everyone’s type,’ he tells Eddie, like he just knows it and pities Eddie for lying. ‘To fuck, at least.’

“You should leave,” he adds, for good measure. There’s silence on the other side for a moment but Steve knows it’s not that easy.
“Please. Can I come up?”
Steve should say no. If he had an ounce of self-love, he would. The problem is the way that voice shifts his world, it’s like the floor is swept from under his feet, it’s like he was frozen upside down for years and is just realizing it now.
He should say no. And yet, Steve presses the red button on his intercom, opening the front gate so that Eddie fucking Munson can waltz right back into his life.

“You thinking of getting it for yourself?” The man continues, eyebrows raised, and that’s when Steve realises he’s just been staring, practically drooling over this stranger who's decided to strike up a conversation about a guitar. A part of him wishes that the floor would open up and swallow him whole.
“Oh, uh, no, actually.” He says, “It’s for my daughter.”
Something indecipherable flickers across the man’s face, there and gone again in an instant, “How sweet.”
“I don’t know what I’m looking for,” he admits, a little sheepish, “I’m not a musician, so…” he shrugs, “I have no way of knowing if this is a good guitar or not.”
There’s a hint of amusement in the man’s eyes as his mouth tilts into a more crooked grin, “Well, lucky for you, I can help.”
In one fluid motion, the man drops himself into a sweeping, dramatic bow. The suddenness of it startles a laugh out of Steve.
“Eddie Munson, guitarist, musician extraordinaire - at your service.”
His energy is infectious - Steve finds that he’s grinning, “Uh, Steve Harrington. Basketball coach, dad,” He tries to think of another good descriptor, but comes up short, “Totally at a loss, here.” -

Summary
The way Steve Harrington burrowed into his heart wasn’t ordinary nor simple. Nothing about the man—at least, beyond the surface—had ever been. He lived his life as if he was in constant danger, just ramped up to a frighteningly high degree. Maybe head trauma did that to you. Maybe whatever life Steve had with his family did that to you. If those scars and the lack of parents in the picture weren’t a sign, he didn’t know what else was.
Eddie still had to wonder about the things that haunted Steve every waking moment.
