“Steve!” Dustin hisses. “You’re literally Rapunzel!”
“I am not!”
“Yes, you are!”
“How can I be Rapunzel if I’m standing right here, dipshit?” Steve fires back. “I’ve been driving you shitheads around all week! My Dad’s an asshole, sure, but wouldn’t I be locked up in some-some tower right now if I were Rapunzel!”
“But there are locks,” Hopper interrupts. “On all your windows, your clothes, your door.” Rage claws at his throat, ready to roar and tear into Richard Harrington. “Lucas said there’s no handle on the inside of your room.” Who modifies a door to trap a child?
Steve stares, slack-jawed as if he hit him. The boy closes his eyes, hands running through his hair, and the room falls quiet. “Ok,” he says after a moment. “I know how it looks, but my Dad switches to a regular handle when they leave. I’m not exactly stuck. And he only locks the door when I’m grounded!”

Steve shakes his head. It’s a Hail Mary. He knows that. He’ll probably leave Dr. Munson’s care just the same as all the others, not able to think straight, brain still a pile of goo. But he’s been so tired for so long. And Munson’s so different from the rest of them. So maybe, just maybe…
“Yeah. Sure.” He says with a wave of his hand, “Hypnotize me.”

Nancy blinks and her hand goes still against her mouth. When she doesn’t react beyond that, Steve takes a chance, curling his hand around her arm. She blinks again and this time he can see the awareness lighting up in her eyes. It’s as much a relief as finding her had been; he doesn’t like seeing her trapped in her own head. Especially not after Vecna literally trapped her in there.

On a spring midnight in 1982, Steve Harrington, the newly crowned king of Hawkins High, was home alone. Still underage, he was drunk for the first time in his life. Half-lying on the sofa, he had completely forgotten about the party held earlier that night in this lonely house and fell into a groggy, drunken stupor.
A chill woke him. Steve shivered, the hardness of the floor slowly bringing him back to consciousness — when had he ended up on the floor? He fumbled for the blanket that should have been covering him but found nothing. Then, rubbing his bleary eyes, he slowly looked around.
Steve suddenly realized he was not alone.
He looked up. In the pitch darkness, a grimy little boy was curled up opposite him, as if leaning against the corner of the wall. The child was trembling uncontrollably, his hair disheveled and his face deathly pale. Then, the boy suddenly opened his mouth:
HELP!
Steve jolted awake.

Became popular. But none of it was real. His smile. His dumbed-down personality. Even his hair. All fake. Because Finney was smart—*very* smart—but Steve Harrington wasn’t supposed to be. Steve Harrington was just a mask. It was survival. Because the world is cruel—especially to people like Finney Blake. So maybe Steve Harrington killed Finney Blake. Or maybe the Grabber did. Seventh grade had been hellish for Joey. Suddenly his big brother was off at Purdue, and math had letters in it, and all the girls started acting so weird— even his friends! But now eighth grade had come along, and things were finally looking up.
His brother followed through on his promise to visit every couple of weeks, he'd gotten a little better at math, and Rachel, Sarah, and Emily stayed close with him and the guys (even if they were still kind of weird).
And, of course, a new grade meant new teachers— specifically, Mr. Harrington and Ms. Buckley.

Eddie had never really been one to be shy, and certainly not about love. Sure, he’d had relationships back in high school he’d kept quiet about, partially for fear that whatever bi-curious boy who’d turned their gaze onto Eddie this week would knock his head in, but mostly because that wasn’t actually love.
Steve, however. Now that was love.
Steve. His Stevie. His sweet little baby. His darling princess.
You can imagine, therefore, the type of pain he was in on tour: no Stevie for almost the entire thing, with the only respite being an Indianapolis stop months into the tour.
You can also imagine how tired everyone on the tour was of hearing about Eddie’s girlfriend Stevie. The best workaround for killing Eddie appeared to be placing bets on what exactly Stevie was like.
OR: 5 times Corroded Coffin’s tour crew made an assumption about Eddie’s Stevie + 1 time they were all proven wrong.

When Nancy shoots the sphere (aka the exotic matter) in S5EP05, Steve is on the roof as well and gets sucked into the matter. He gets thrown out in the year 1978, nine years before S5, some floors below in the Hawkins Lab.
or: Steve accidentally time-travels into the past, to the time of the children-experiments and one year before the massacre. While he is held hostage in the Lab, he needs to protect baby Eleven and all the other kids (if they like it or not), try to not tell Brenner and his soldiers too much about the future and also work with the blooming obsession of noone else than Vecna/Henry Creel himself. Easy, right?
