Morgana turns his skeptical gaze on him. “Are you sure? You weren’t feeling so great earlier...”
Akechi watches their target for a moment longer, and the illusion of his soft yukata and softer hair dispels under his glass shard of a smile. There isn’t a trace of pain on his face anymore—only simmering, dark excitement. “As I said. I don’t like to lose.”
And neither does Ren. Yeah, they’re head to toe in yukata and sandals, and yeah, everyone is right: this is so, so stupid. Ren is so stupid. But he’s gonna climb this roof and catch that goddamn cop.
He meets Akechi’s gaze beat for beat. “Let’s do it.”

Who says you have to see Morgana speak in the Metaverse before you can hear him in the real world? Not the few hundred officers who arrested Ren in Sae’s Palace two years ago, that’s for sure.

“So I’m to be bait,” Akechi says flatly. “You’re serving me up.”
Ren can feel the grin on his face, and he can’t stop it. “I gotta open the store tomorrow, I only serve coffee.”
“Absolutely idiotic. Why would I agree to that?"
Ren shrugs one shoulder and leans back against the movie theater wall, smiling. He’s feeling light on his feet right now. It’s been a bad day, but the end is nice. “Call it penance.”
“Penance for what,” Akechi says.
His smile stays where it is as he glances away for a moment, then meets Akechi’s eyes again. “Being yourself.”

Summer vacation back in Tokyo was supposed to be two things: an exciting break from the mundanity of home, and a chance to see people he's missed so much it hurts. If he survives, Ren has good news for himself on both.

Summary
“Care to explain what's the need to corner me after classes, Kurusu?” Akechi recomposed himself as much as he could, and hoped the other hadn't seen him in a panic, ready to spit the first offensive spell that came to his mind. Of course Kurusu would laugh at him, it was all he ever did, but something was off. He wasn't prepared for the other to soften his voice after, with a small smile on his lips and some... shyness? He hadn’t seen that side of Kurusu since their fourth year.
“You finally came to my game... Sure, it took you a while to accept my offer, but you were there. I saw.” I winked.

Summary
Akechi knows that he’s not supposed to be able to hear Morgana. Maintaining the illusion of ignorance is vital if he wants to gain Akira’s trust and guarantee his death. It’s just a shame that Morgana insists on testing his patience during every interaction. The amount of insults he’s had to endure with a straight face is ridiculous. Still, he tells himself that he just has to curb his indignation until November. Then his plan will culminate in the assassination of the Phantom Thieves’ leader. With Akira gone, Shido will win the election - and Akechi’s moment for revenge will arrive.
He’s so close to victory that he can taste it in the back of his throat. If the biggest obstacle to his success is a talking cat, then he’s gotten pretty lucky.
Unfortunately, he underestimates just how much of a roadblock Akira himself will turn out to be.

“We need to talk about this. And I don’t just mean you leaving” --Ren raises a hand, cutting off Akechi before he can finish opening his mouth-- “I mean everything.”
“It’s pointless. I’ve already told you as much.” Akechi rolls his eyes and digs a crumpled lens rag out of his pocket. “After I’m gone, none of those things will matter anymore. If you think that your usual brand of brainless sentimentality will work on me, then--”
Just then, as Akechi unfurls the glasses cleaning rag, something clatters to the ground between them. Their heads turn to follow the sound in unison, and both discover the source at the same time -- an incredibly smooth, thumb-sized rock.
They raise their eyes again, steel gray meeting dark auburn.
Akechi’s Adam’s apple bobs under the collar of his turtleneck. “...Please let me explain.”Sometimes, if a rock is smooth enough, it can drag a man out of hiding and force him into a secret shared custody agreement with the guy he's hiding from -- and what Yusuke doesn't know can't hurt him.

He looks exactly like a small version of Joker.

“Hifumi passed on your greetings,” Akira Kurusu says, fury simmering beneath his conversational tone. “And I’m polite enough to give you my own in person. So greetings, General Goro Akechi. I am the man who will kill you.” Kurusu bares his teeth in a poor imitation of a smile, anger written all over his face, and strikes again.
Or: Goro Akechi and Akira Kurusu are generals on opposing sides of war.

“By the way…,” he handed Akira a bundle of yen notes, “you’re allowed to spend these as well.”
Akira stared at the bills in his hands - even more than last time, he noticed somewhere in the back of his numbed brain - and back up to Akechi, panicked.
“I can’t accept that.”
“Please, do see it as a tip for excellent conversation and coffee.”
Goro is a widow who has recently come to a lot of money due to the truly unfortunate, sudden and unexplained death of his late husband. And the cute barista he just met looks like he's in desperate need of being spoiled.

Summary
Two years since the re-set of reality, Goro is truly is living as freely as one can. Which means staying far away from Akira. His rival, his comparison point, his may have been friend, his may have been...well, it’s no use living in what could have been. Goro needs to be able to move on from all that occurred, cut off the pathways which drew him to destruction and almost killed him several times over.
Except, when he discovers a secret, he is dragged right back once more.

There's seven of them. Seven people with either unexplained, massive brain injuries leading to death, or in two particular nasty cases, sudden suicides. All connected by the fact their life had been so much better, and yet no different in the past six months.
Akira's at a loss of what they should do, until an old enemy mentions someone from his past.
Turns out Goro Akechi is alive, and might be able to help him stop these unexplained tragedies. But to do that, they'll have to actually discuss the past and their connection to one another.
