Slightly late Halloween fic!
Balon Greyjoy sold his youngest son’s soul to win his rebellion, not knowing it was all a trick by the wily and power hungry Bolton family. Alannys sees an opportunity to save her son from The Kraken’s Curse, and sends him to Winterfell far from the ocean, for when Theon turns seven and ten, he will become a sea monster so grotesque that no man could stand to look upon him.
Years later, Theon and Robb are sent to White Harbor by the sea and nothing goes according to plan.

Robb hadn’t imagined that he’d get to the Dreadfort to find Theon gone, apparently rescued by some of his sister’s men who had been staying at Deepwood Motte, and Ramsay Snow swearing left and right that he hadn’t known that his father was planning on turning his cloak and telling Robb that he’d be more than glad to prove him that he surely was not thinking about serving anyone else.
Or: where Robb doesn't die at the Twins and has to rely on Ramsay Snow to find Theon again and close the betrayal matter once and for all, thinking that it's going to be pretty straightforward. He thinks wrong.

Loki accused Thor of the worst possible crime: rape. It was an accusation all took seriously, but especially so when Thor accused Loki in turn of that same crime. No one knew who to believe. There was no denying something occurred between them, while one obviously lied, but no one could know where the truth lay. It left a kingdom divided.

Summary
By some miracle, Robb Stark survives The Red Wedding. Enemies are everywhere, and all of them would see him dead, so he goes to the only place that he can - The Wall. For a while, things are almost simple. Jon is there. Robb is there. Life at Castle Black will never be easy, but they have each other and that's almost enough.
Neither of them are prepared for a malnourished Theon Greyjoy to arrive one day, with a gravely sick Jeyne Poole in his arms.
Robb is angry (at most of Westeros). Jon is angry (and relieved of his duties, since his return from the dead). Theon just wants to rest (preferably forever). Thankfully, some hope does still exist, and the North might be able to be salvaged after all.

AU in which Theon returns to Robb instead of attacking Winterfell. Things don't go much better for him.
"Theon betrayed the Starks! He should've gone back to Robb and fought against the Ironborn what a traitor!!!" - To all those who said this, I offer this fic. What I imagine would happen if Theon were to disregard his father's choice, and instead return to the Stark host with news that the Greyjoys are in open rebellion and plan to attack the North while the Starks proceed south to King's Landing. I also wanted an excuse to write a full interaction between two of my favourite characters, Theon and Jaime.
Apparently Northerners didn't learn to not kill the messenger-- especially when Theon himself was taken as ward for a situation just like this. When Robb refuses to behead Theon for his father's betrayal, nobody is pleased. As the men march back North to fight off the assaulting Ironborn, Theon finds himself stuck with guard duty of perhaps the only man hated more by the Northerners than himself–- Jaime Lannister.
