or, Shadow’s never been very into the christmas spirit. the holiday tends to remind him of year after year of loneliness, so when Sonic finally becomes a part of it and reminds him how loved he is, Shadow decided maybe christmas isn’t all that bad.

Summary
Shadow wasn’t used to receiving physical affection from people that weren’t Rouge. She would snuggle against him during movies, drape herself across him on the couch, lean against him while he made coffee, but never massage his quills. They were strictly platonic, and Shadow never felt uncomfortable around her because he knew she was obsessed with Knuckles.
But this was completely different. This was Sonic, who’d never touched him like this, and Shadow didn’t know how to react.
or, sonic’s restless while out with friends and shadow becomes his next victim.

Summary
He hears the voice chattering about something, but it doesn't seem directed at him, and the voice is oh so soothing. He falls back asleep in record time.
Only to be woken again in what feels like seconds. He groans, annoyed as he lazily swats at the hand touching him. It does nothing to deter the offender, as they move from shaking him to gently carding a hand through his quills.
"C'mon, you gotta get up, Shads," The voice urges. Sonic urges. Chaos, how tired is he that he can't recognise his partner's voice? He rolls over, and the hand continues its soothing as he attempts to wake himself up. Opening his eyes feels like a monumental task. His eyelids struggle, fluttering closed tiredly as soon as he gets them open. He blinks a couple of times, trying to rid the sleep from his eyes, but it doesn't work. His eyes are heavy and bleary as they gaze up at Sonic.

Sonic would only need to hibernate for three months.
That’s what he had to keep reminding himself as Sonic went kicking into hibernation. His only other comfort, besides a cozy burrow hidden away from the prying world, was the favor he’d asked of his long-time rival, Shadow. With hybrid genetics and Chaos in his veins, Shadow wouldn’t need to bed down for the winter storm of the century.
Just three months without the blue hedgehog. That was it.
Shadow only managed two weeks before he went to check on him.

The muffled sound of a phone ringing cuts Rouge's lament off. She huffs, feigning irritation at the offending noise, but looks at Shadow expectantly. Shadow grumbles, pulling the phone out of his quills and pressing answer, not bothering to look at the caller ID. Anyone calling him during working hours is very aware of the risks.
"You've reached Shadow," the dark hedgehog drones unenthusiastically. He hears some shuffling on the other side, followed by some deep breaths, then,
"Shadow-?" Tails' meek voice drifts through his speaker, almost too soft to catch. Shadow's previous annoyance disappears instantly as he recognises the kit's voice.
