As the Fire Lord's daughter, and a Beifong, Izumi bowed her head to no one. Every dignitary who commented with a side remark to her father, every councilmember who tried to viscerally tear him down, she would remember their face, their voice, their offense well. Because even if she was just a child, that was just a matter of time not being on her side. And besides, no one would be able to fault her if she told her mom all about what happened.
In which Izumi, Lin, and Suyin are the daughters of the Fire Lord, but the part of them that is Beifong can't be denied (and shouldn't be underestimated).

Mai has seen heartbroken idiots before. (For that matter, she's been a heartbroken idiot before.) But there's something different about Zuko and Toph, and she's going to get it through Toph's thick head if it's the last thing she does. But that may mean admitting some hard truths she's never quite been willing to face.
Toph has watched her friends' relationships fall apart before, and never wanted to make the same mistakes. Yet, somehow, she finds herself repeating them anyway, and has found herself stepping into the shoes of the woman she swore she'd never be like, breaking the heart of the only man she's ever really loved. But what other choice does she have?
Zuko has loved and lost and had to let go before. But he's not about to lose Toph the same way he lost Mai. This time, he's going to do whatever it takes to get the woman he loves back-- even if it means confronting the woman he never wanted to see again.

Mai doesn't have a soulmark (plenty of people don't), and Zuko's soulmark is actually a sole-mark, in that it's hidden on the bottom of his foot, so most people aren't aware he has one. Mai only finds it on their wedding night, which is the first she's even hearing about it—and she's not best pleased about that. But Zuko explains that he knows who it is, and she's not interested in him that way, and she's really not interested in being the queen of anything, so really it didn't matter enough to tell Mai before.
"I'm not telling you her name," he says flatly, "you'll be weird about it, and she might even figure it out from that."
"Fine," says Mai, and then, "wait. You mean she doesn't know?!"
"Absolutely not," says Zuko as fervently as an eighteen-year-old can.
