You’re either being angry at each other or sad at each other or, the worst, barely disguised horny at each other. Barely disguised. Cuffs stay on til you sort your shit out, whether that’s making up or deciding to go your separate ways.”
“That’s a fuckin’ ridiculous idea,” Ed snaps, because he can’t contradict the angry, sad, horny descriptor. Boy’s got that part down pretty accurate.
“Yes, it is!” Stede says. “Where on earth did you come up with something like that?”
Frenchie jumps in to answer this one. “Buttons told us a story about his mum tying him and his little sister together when they’d fight, til they made up.”
“Oh, and we take advice on interpersonal relations from whatever ocean-dwelling cryptid raised Buttons now, do we?”

Ed digs his head into the pillow and groans at the implication, at the thought of Stede bouncing on his cock. It’s been awhile, and Ed would be a filthy liar if he said he didn’t miss it. “You wanna ride me? Fuck yeah. You have the best fucking ideas, love.”

Summary
There’s something…off about The Gentleman Pirate. It takes Ed a little while to put it all together, longer than it would have if Stede weren’t so fascinating, so goddamn distracting. It’s little things, at first: how Stede is not a good enough pirate to be that blasé with his personal welfare, how confident he seems that things will work out in the end, the glimmer in his eye he gets when danger comes close and whispers in his ear. It’s maddening and familiar, too, because Ed swears he’s met Stede before. Maybe on a ship somewhere, or in town, a shared look before a shared bed; though, if the sex were as good then as it is now, Ed’s sure he would remember. As Ed watches and waits — and desperately tries not to fall in love — he grows more and more convinced that the truth is a terrifying third option; a monster parents tell their children about at night and all sailors dread. Stede Bonnet is The World Ender.

Summary
The more he hyped up Stede’s impending torture-and-death to Izzy, the more Edward prayed that Stede would stay wherever he was, far away from Edward and Izzy and the stripped-down Revenge. The one relief Edward had was that he was never going to see Stede Bonnet again. There was no way he could have harmed even a hair on Stede Bonnet’s head, and then Izzy would probably take it upon himself to kill Stede in front of Edward, just to remind him to never care about anything.
So, it really was quite inconvenient for Stede to show up one day, full of apologies and determination, beautiful as he was the day Ed had kissed him.

"Yes?" Stede asks, kneeling on Ed's foot a little to get him to keep still. He's good at so many things, is Ed, but sitting still is not one of them.
"I want to kiss you," Ed says, like he always does when he's in his cups. Like he *only* does when he's in his cups, and there's the rub.

Summary
Stede loses all hope of a better life after serving on a “real” pirate ship with his crew after a failed attempt to get back to the Revenge. He’s a changed man with scars and flinches that were never there before, but he's at least a competent sailor and fighter now.
Blackbeard's barely hanging in there, holed up in his cabin more often than not. He's even been banned from going on raids after an incident that left Izzy Hands frantic to come up with one last plan to try to save his captain. When Izzy finds Stede on a raid, he takes him back to the Revenge to try to get Blackbeard back.
Blackbeard hates Stede, but he still wants him, and Stede still wants him too. They come to an agreement that brings them closer together while keeping them bitterly apart. Two broken men muddle through their past experiences and heartbreak, picking up the pieces and slowly coming back to life as they come back to each other (while Izzy and the remaining crew members try to help).

Trying to shake free of the grasp of his diabolical thoughts, Ed turned back to watching Stede go about his business, leaning against the quarterdeck railing like a good-for-nothing layabout.
Damn it, the man was beautiful. The beam of light Stede’s smile shone would cut through the murkiest Carolina swampwater. But admittedly, his face wasn’t what Ed’s hungry eyes were spending the most time swallowing up. Ed thought that Stede’s body looked as pleasantly round and ornamented as the little cream puffs and pastries that had made him soft in the first place. Stede might even look more delicious when he was pumped full of cream.
Ed cursed his one-track mind.

See, it's no use whipping the shit out of a disobedient crew-mate if he's getting something out of it. It wouldn't be a punishment then, would it? If you want to punish a man, you target what he holds close, what he values about himself.
Blackbeard had the reputation he had for a reason- Ed knew how to read a person, how to find a weakness. How to exploit it.
And he knew exactly what approach was needed to make Stede squirm as deliciously as they both wanted him to.
