Eddie had been drinking his coffee, sitting outside on his back porch, trying not to get overwhelmed at all the shit he still had to do at his new place. The bird, a sweet little thing with a yellow face, was a nice distraction, flitting around, probably looking for food through the overgrown garden. It doesn’t take more than three minutes before his phone buzzes with Buck’s response.

Summary
God, how he loves being Evancito. He loves how that sounds rolling off Eddie’s tongue. It’s so full of love, so incredibly fond, sounds so much the unconditional love that he’s been craving ever since he was a kid, when he was just sad, lonely, little Evan. Evancito. He thinks it’s ironic that it literally means little Evan. It’s like Eddie is directly speaking to his inner child, to that seven, eight-year-old boy who sought attention by harming himself on purpose. And it’s incredible, because Buck was sure he’d never be loved like this, fully, completely, wholeheartedly.

“Daisy chains,” Jee says very seriously.
Eddie clocks the little circlet of daisies atop her silky black hair. In the garden, Buck is cross-legged in the grass, a similar crown of cheery white flowers resting on his curls. Eddie spares a grateful thought for past-Eddie, procrastinating mowing the lawn.
“I can see that,” he says. “You look very pretty.”
She beams at him. “Uncle Buck, also.”
Eddie looks up, meeting Buck’s eyes for the first time since he stormed into the house all agitated. He beams at Eddie, too, matching Jee’s daisies and dimples. The churning inside Eddie quietens. “He looks pretty, too.”
Buck rolls his eyes but his cheeks are a pleased pink. Eddie kinda likes that he put it there.
