Everyone tells Vash that flora can't bloom on this desolate little planet. He knows that's a lie. They're blooming perfectly fine in his lungs, lining his ribcage and scratching up his esophagus. Red geraniums. They've been spilling out of his mouth since the July incident and falling on his pillow like blood.
He deserves it. A flower petal for each person he decimated in that city.
What he doesn't deserve: Nicholas D. Wolfwood.
Vash doesn't remember much thanks to Nai's memory warping. All he knows is he's done terrible things, leveled an entire city, and he's coughing up flowers for a man who probably thinks he's dead. What happens when Wolfwood shows back up in his life? Will he be able to remember what Nai stole? Will he allow himself the honor of love?
Set post Trigun Stampede, starting in episode 18 of the '98 Trigun and diverging from there.

Upon hearing his name being mentioned, the black-clad man merely tips his head in acknowledgement. “And Mr Wolfwood is …?” Vash begins, as if he’s supposed to recognise that strange man with his equally strange-looking crossbow. There’s a hint of a crucifix incorporated seamlessly into its prod and tiller, making the overall design look way bigger than the standard-shaped crossbow weaponry that archers normally wield.
“Hunter,” the man drawls at once. He takes this as a cue to approach them with a laidback gait imbued with the right amount of poise that serves as a warning to the next fool looking for trouble. All at once, Vash knows better not to end up at the receiving end of his bad side. “Nicholas D. Wolfwood, at your service.”

When magicless warlock Vash meets hunter Nicholas D. Wolfwood, he chalks it up as happenstance. It's not every day you meet a guy with the right amount of confidence and the perfect level of aim to take down creatures causing havoc. With werewolves attacking towns at random, Vash supposes it is only wise that they team up.
But everyone else knows the story. After all, is anything with Nicholas D. Wolfwood by chance, ever?

Arching a brow, Nicholas pauses and then drifts after Vash, drawn in by the gravity of him and the silly, besotted smile on his face. Honestly, that's probably Nicholas' second mistake because he doesn't pay a lick of attention to the odd tension or sudden strange silence that makes the hair on the back of his neck prickle.
A stop over in a small town escalates into a bigger problem when a group of ruffians get it in their heads to go after the 60 Billion Double Dollar Man. Vash and Wolfwood make the best of it, all things considering.
