Recovery was full of backslides and speedbumps. Maybe you become a little bit different. The old version of you is dead, but that’s okay. You are still alive.

I hover in an immense darkness, endless ethereal white above head, so close I could reach up and nearly brush it with my fingertips. It is an endless pane, smooth as silk with wispy, transparent tendrils at the edges, opaque and solid further in, all of it sparkling. It is so immense and beautiful I cannot peel my eyes away from it. I want to be this fog.

Cindy Good was the first girl he got to second base with, but not the first he loved. He didn't love a girl until the summer of '93, when he met Suzie. He never learned her last name, couldn't be sure Suzie was her real name. Never kissed her, either. He didn't even realize it was love until he'd left her behind.
