Summary
Nancy uncurls her hands and folds her arms over her chest angrily, head buzzing with thoughts of retribution and agony. Her eyes flit away from Steve and inadvertently land on the sad pile of sodden flowers that rests atop her kitchen table.
He’d gathered them up in a heartbroken daze, rescuing them from the sorry shards of an eye-sore masquerading as a vase. The bundle had been hand-picked - Nancy could see the way the ends of them were cut off unevenly and a bit hastily - and it hurt with just how Robin it was.
Now they sit there, leaving a damp spot on the tablecloth that will inevitably garner complaints from his father, almost mocking him.
(If you were faster they’d be here to tell you about the convoluted meanings of flowers. If only you’d been faster, they’d still be here. You weren’t fast enough. You never are. You can’t save them-)
...
AKA: The Russians never left Hawkins after Starcourt, and the general is intent at cleaning up his messes.
