She should run- should act like the demon she was and run away from the demon hunters despite how desperately she wanted to be near them.
She should find Jinu. He was a demon too, a demon who hated what he was and understood Rumi, who had promised to make the Saja Boys lose tonight.
But Mira and Zoey were right there- Mira and Zoey.
How could she run away from the people she wanted nothing more than to spend her life close to.
She had been so close, so close to finally being able to fully lean into Zoey’s hugs, to taking off her long-sleeves during morning treadmill runs with Mira, to going to that damn bathhouse with them.
(She had been so close to being something good enough to let them see.)
She couldn't run from them. (Rumi was tired, so tired.)

Chris couldn’t quite fathom it. He had always known, he supposed, that his parents had had him while they were young. Hell, his dad was only thirty-three. He had done the math before and landed on that age. Nineteen. But he’d never really considered it. His dad was simply his dad. In Chris’s head, he had never really existed as anything else. He had always just been his dad, and there wasn’t anything else to it.
But Chris had just spent six months living in his dad’s childhood bedroom, surrounded by evidence of his youth. His baseball trophies decorated the shelves. Yellowed posters of older emo bands were taped to the wall. Pictures of him and his high school friends were pinned to a cork board. His poorly graded tests sat in the drawers of the desk. Bed sheets patterned with race cars adorned the duvet. It was a kid’s bedroom. And it belonged to his dad.

“My heart’s pounding,” Buck whispers.
Eddie swallows thickly, his own heart slamming so hard against his ribcage that it’s starting to hurt. He only needs to lean forward ever so slightly for their foreheads to touch, causing both their breaths to stutter into the small space left between them.
“Mine, too,” he admits.
And it almost feels like enough. Just being in this in-between. Just knowing they both feel something that’s more. More than just best friends. Without having to take the leap and change their relationship forever. Without doing something that can’t be undone.

Buck struggles to find his place in this new relationship just as he begins to realize how much he's in love with his best friend, and just after he learns the truth about his birth from his parents.
The 118 just want Buck to trust that he has a family, and Eddie isn't helping that.
Including the saving graces of the one-gay-teen, which consists Buck's new little sister May, Josh Russo, Karen (but not Hen because she hates the group chat), and Taylor (who apologizes for being the way she was and actually tries, okay).
Also Tia and Abuela refuse to let Eddie run off their favorite chico.

Buck and Eddie had been luckier than most enlisted soldiers - after meeting at basic training, they were stationed at the same base, and had been in the same unit ever since. Buck was woken by the incessant buzzing of his phone a mere couple of hours after he got off his shift.
As he reached for his phone he went through the list of people that could be trying to contact him so badly right after a shift. His first thought was that it was Eddie, but they hadn’t talked since he told the team he was leaving the 118 during the Christmas party and it was now February. It could have been Christopher, texting or Facetiming as they had been often, but he should be at school. His next thought was that it was Maddie, but she was still not picking up his calls. He thought maybe Taylor, but they had run into each other as he got back this morning and she knew he had been planning on sleeping and she was working all day. None of them were viable candidates for who was texting him, but they still were all more likely than the name he saw on his screen.

“Isabella,” the older girl said, “and this is Quique and Mia.”
The two first graders gave shy waves. Christopher gave them both a kind smile, the one he had seen his Buck use when working with children before.
“Nice to meet you all. We’ll be okay. My dads are firefighters and I bet they’re on their way here right now to help us,” he told them, and that seemed to brighten the faces of all three of the other kids.

When a fire breaks out at Christopher's school, Christopher finds three students stuck inside the building with no way of escape. He stays with them, knowing that help is on the way, because his dads taught him everything he needs to know to survive a fire. He can be brave, like his dads, until they come to his rescue.Series

"The only good thing about the first slide is that it told her that the taller RA was Buck while the other man was named Eddie.
The pictures, however, gave her pause. It showed the two RAs standing in water with a beautiful waterfall in the background. That was the photo on the left and was normal enough. As normal as two dudes standing in knee deep water with their arms around the other could be. It was the second picture on the right that made her begin to suspect that there was something more between the two RAs. Buck was still standing in the water but this time he was holding Eddie in a bridal carry. On surface level it doesn’t seem that deep but it’s the way Buck is looking at Eddie in the photo that makes her brain kick into drive to overanalyze the photo. She swears that his eyes could only be described as “heart eyes” with how intently he was looking at the other man. Eddie was no better. His arms may have been crossed and he looked somewhat annoyed, but you could clearly see the beginnings of a smile on his face."
Or five times where Buck and Eddie's new residents think they notice something about their relationship and the one time where they actually learned just how right (or wrong) they were.
