Summary
Mighty the Armadillo—or well, quite literally just Mighty Armadillo if he had to fill out legal documents, was somewhat well known for his gentle nature, adventurous spirit, and immense strength that rivaled the likes of powerhouses like Knuckles the Echidna. He was born in a small rural town in the state of Mississippi, and he still had the thick drawl and overtly polite mannerisms to prove it. Despite that, he still considered the coastlines of Los Angeles to be his home; helped by the fact that he met and took in his precious little brother who he treasured above all else, Ray the Flying Squirrel.
He also had the Chaotix to support him whenever needed… especially their self-proclaimed ninja, Espio the Chameleon, who he’d often snag a beer to share with (and maybe makeout under the stars on occasion).
Tldr; Mighty through the years dealing with his issues from childhood constantly following him through every relationship and decision he makes.

In the end, Rouge made the first move. She always did. Crossing the distance between them in short, purposeful strides, and just when it looked like neither of them would break their composure, the bat's expression crumpled- and she launched herself, arms wrapping tight around the black hedgehog and holding her close.
Soft, Secure, Safe.
Shadow clicked the pause button on her mp3, the barest hint of a tremble in her hands as she took out her earbuds. The bustling sounds of Westopolis was clear in her ears for the first time in three years.
"Hey Rouge."

Seriously, how did it even get like this? And now, it seems life's getting better? He's meeting old friends and new, its strange.There's something about these kids… They made Vector feel something, he didn't know what, though.
Maybe he'd try to live a bit longer. Anything to figure this out. He did always want to be a detective.

Shadow’s ears flick and relax ever so slightly, his expression drifting from a scowl into something a little more anxious and Espio takes a slow breath.
Right, potentially abused, definitely undersocialized, incredibly emotionally sensitive, gotta remember that.
Turning to put his back against the countertop, Espio makes himself look less tense by relaxing his tail and softening his colours to a more muted shade of purple. When he speaks, he tries for a softer tone that’s free of condescension. “Shadow,” Black and red quills flare and twitch, a mix of reflex and some instinctive need to defend himself – Espio nearly laughs at the thought, because what the hell was he going to do to Shadow? Keeping the hedgehog’s tensed frame in view, Espio tips his head and shifts his own body so that he’s as far from the kitchen entrance as possible. “Why do you think I’d be upset?”

Summary
Working for GUN has made Shadow miserable. Resolving to quit, he waits for Rouge at her apartment for some kind of reassurance. However, his intents are immediately derailed when Rouge stumbles home, alone, from the hospital. Shadow drops his problems to help her recover from her top surgery in the days that follow, battling Rouge's reluctance toward vulnerability and his own immediately-complicated feelings about her. (Not in a romantic way, in an "expectation vs reality" kind of way). Neither is ready to be honest with the other about how important their friendship is, but actions speak louder than words.

“Surgery,” Shadow said softly, folding his arms again. “You really want to be left alone? Now? You need to recover.”
Rouge’s gaze narrowed with a sardonic smile. “Thanks for telling me what I already know, Shadow. I can handle it myself.”
