Lately, Steve and Eddie had been kind of attached at the hip. Literally. Eddie had always been a touchy guy, but it felt a little bit like that didn’t apply to him and Steve. Eddie was always tussling Mike’s hair to mess it up, shoving Robin or squeezing Henderson’s shoulders. But when it came to Steve, it was like there was a little wall. Eddie always kept a little bit of distance, not wanting to push his limits it seemed. Until recently. Now, Eddie was all over him, always fiddling with some part of his clothing, messing up his hair, or roughhousing in general when they walked next to each other.
Steve had his suspicions about why this was happening. All of them were embarrassing.

He has kids to take care of, an awkward lesbian to advise. Max needs a big brother. Hawkins is his home, and Steve can’t just leave. Not while he’s still needed. He knows one day he won’t be. But for now, it’s enough.
Or: the Harringtons sell their house before the real estate market goes belly-up. Hawkins has been going downhill for years, anyway. His parents give Steve a choice: move with them and finally take that job at his dad’s company or get left behind. For Steve, it wasn’t much of a choice at all. He may not have a house anymore, but his BMW’s backseat has served as a bed plenty of times already. No one has to know. The party has enough problems to worry about.
Or: Eddie Munson worms his way into Steve’s sorry little life months before Vecna rears his ugly head.

That was when he saw them.
The two figures were folded over each other on the ground, a ring of dark shapes crumpled and curled around them. Webbed, membranous wings fluttered lifelessly in the wind, lifting at odd angles like plastic bags on the interstate.
But Steve could barely see them.
His ears rang, his vision reduced to a greyish tunnel as he recognised the wooly texture of Dustin’s ghillie suit.

Steve’s feet tripped beneath him as he staggered down the hill, moving towards them.
No hero moves, his thoughts washed through his mind in a seasick, rolling fashion. He could already see the dark wash of blood, soaking the ground like ink around them, as he bolted forward.

Steve Harrington, ex-lifeguard and babysitter extraordinaire, happens to be blessed with knowledge of first aid. Eddie is the recipient of this aid, and as he recovers he must learn to live with the fact that he owes his life to a prom-king with a 12 step haircare routine. This would be easier if he didn’t find said prom king so uncomfortably attractive.
And if the world would stop ending for five minutes.

Happy faltered for a second before doubling down. "I mean it, I will take you home right now, we can call May." It struck him funny, how no one had any idea how much his world had warped upon itself in such a short time.
How long would it have taken them to notice May had moved, to notice how Peter's world was burning down around him if he didn't fuck up?
"Thanks, dude," the nickname would have gotten a scoff or some light threat in the past, but Happy only watched him. "I can make my own choices, grown man rights and all that. But A for effort, stepping in for the little guy." Peter made his words sharp, clapping sarcastically.
"Peter, I owe you a massive apology, I just need you to-"
"Don't give a flying fuck, keep it." He threw up a peace sign, shoving his hands into his pockets again as he wandered towards Tony, unbothered. Stark was watching him with an expression that told Peter that he didn't recognize him at that moment. But Peter didn't care, they could both eat dirt. He was done with them.
