Ten years since their lives had been changed, since Waylon had accidentally become enthralled to Monty. Not that he minded. Not that he had even noticed at first. They had learned together how to adapt, and it wasn't until later that Waylon learned the word for what he was. Familiar.
Then, Waylon's hair had been a little darker, his eyes brighter and less weary. The crow's feet at the corners of his eyes had been almost nonexistent, and Monty wondered sometimes if he resented him for waiting so long to answer. All the while, he had changed, and Monty stayed the same.

The part of him that was afraid was overpowered by a sort of sense of duty, a knowledge that Monty needed him more than ever, to be there to aid him in navigating this period of adjustment. Originally i was going to write a series of snippets in chronological order in which Ardyn accompanies the boys directly to Altissia from the get go. In this AU he's not even evil, he's just terrible to be around, but everything goes as planned and nothing is wrong. But then I wrote this bit about sharing the Regalia with him and it's been maybe 5 years since I originally wrote it, so.
