Shane took a deep breath and opened up the door, he knew it wasn’t safe leaving Rozanov standing in the hallway crawling with other hockey players. Rozanov walked inside, the door shutting behind him. He circled Shane quietly, so that Shane’s body was closest to the door. He didn’t touch him though. He just stood there, looking, taking note of what was happening in the room.
“Um— I think. I think I misread the situation. If you want to leave you can,” Shane stuttered out, his hands were pulling at the bottom of his sleeves.
“Ah. I came unprepared. What did you get me, Hollander?” Rozanov smirked, eyeing the flowers and card laid on the bed.

“No, not really,” Rozanov said. Some of his teammates laughed, although they mostly looked surprised that Shane was speaking to them at all. Rozanov didn’t laugh, though. “Are you Russian?”

Lochlan watches his brother, the way Saxon’s jaw tightens, the slow, deliberate rise and fall of his chest. For once, he isn’t laughing, isn’t smirking like he’s got the whole world figured out. There’s something else in his face, something almost unreadable. Lochlan wishes he couldn’t read it, wishes he didn’t see the same panic in Saxon’s eyes that he feels twisting inside his own gut.
Then, like a door slamming shut, Saxon’s expression clears. His face softens, eyes get distant. His posture relaxes into that easy, careless stance again, but Lochlan can see the tension still coiled underneath. He forces out a chuckle, but it sounds wrong, hollow. He sucks in a little breath like he’s the nervous one of all people, gaze shooting downwards to the floor. He nods slowly, swallows.
“Okay, yeah, I get it,” he chuckles, almost sad. It might just have been the lighting, but Lochlan can swear his eyes are watering.
