“I was thinking pills,” Hongjoong says nonchalantly while Seonghwa unwraps his second sandwich. He can feel the paper is hot, the bread is hot, and the chicken is probably gonna be steaming once he takes the first bite. His mouth waters with anticipation, and he takes the first bite, a real mouthful, without acknowledging what Hongjoong said.
“Whoa this is so fucking good,” his eyes roll up for a moment and he melts in his chair, throwing his head back while he alternates between chewing and sucking in air to cool down the bite in his mouth. “Do you want a bite?”
“I wanna get this over with.” His voice carries a weight as if they had been sitting there for two hours stalling instead of barely ten minutes. That’s why Seonghwa likes this place, and likes ordering something to eat, and likes taking his time to eat it — this is not a conversation to be carried hastily.
There is no such thing as just getting it over with.

I’m afraid I’m inexperienced in this area.” Seonghwa said, not wanting to be defiant, but also unsure of how doing well in school landed him a position as the glorified babysitter of a spoiled prince. “No experience necessary. The job is not difficult, but it is important.” She listed off his duties. “You are to attend to his every need. You will dress him, bathe him, keep his schedule, ensure he eats meals, and be available at all times. What he says, you do. No questions asked. Understand?” Seonghwa nodded to show he understood, but inside he wondered just how helpless prince Hongjoong could be if he needed so much care.
That was two years ago now, and he’d come to learn that the prince was far more capable than he first thought. After spending so long by the prince’s side he had learned there was much more to him than meets the eye.

But his roommate steps in, and offers to fill in for her last minute. Seonghwa is skeptical at first, since Hongjoong stays far, far removed from Seonghwa's profession, but when things go well-better than he could've imagined-Seonghwa doesn't see the harm in simply asking Hongjoong to help out a little more.

Seonghwa doesn’t need the mess of trying to date an idol - really, he doesn’t - but that doesn’t change anything about just how attractive he finds Hongjoong.

It all broke Hongjoong’s heart. Seonghwa was doing all of this because he'd finally agreed to go home to see his parents for the holidays, caving to their guilting pleas of It’s been years, Seonghwa. Don’t you love us? We miss you. Be a good son and come home to see your parents. Seonghwa had been on edge for weeks, nervous and anxious over going to visit them.
As he watched Seonghwa change even his phone wallpaper to some generic pre-installed one, the one he’d had for years of a cute selfie of the two of them from their first date now gone, Hongjoong had asked, “Don’t you think you’re overreacting a little?”
To which Seonghwa had just stared at him and solemnly replied, “You don’t know them, Joong. You don’t know what they’re like.”
