“Do you know how old you are right now?” Twilight sighed, letting himself fully sit as the last Moblin fell behind them.
“I’d say about seven… maybe eight years old? Physically, that is.” Wild eventually replied, clenching his small hands into fists.
Twilight's eyes widened in surprise as he looked the kid over again. Wild was small, sure, but eight years old? He’d been fighting with perfect form just a few minutes ago, and the way he was responding to things, the way his hair was cropped short…
“Wild, were you training as a knight at eight years old?” Twilight couldn’t help himself, the fear of knowing the answer not enough to stop his curiosity. Wild jumped slightly at the question, but instead of becoming sheepish, instead of appearing at all upset, he simply cocked his head in question.
“Is that not normal?”

“I’m in a time loop,” Link calmly and quietly starts. Not calmly Twilight realizes, Link’s mind recoils at the mere mention of it. However, some part of him is so innately exhausted that it’s numb at the concept. “Upon either my own death or Gannon's I return in time. Over time the curse has strengthened, making the time loops more and more unhinged. The circumstances of my awakening are different every time, but are rarely fortunate. No one’s been able to so much as notice the curse, but I think it’s safe to say it’s evolved to carry a very potent curse of misfortune. There’s more to the curse, but it’s powerful and inconsistent enough it’s hard to pin down with a simple name.”

Twilight has had a very bad several weeks.
Well, wait— waking up in that grove wasn’t that bad. It was the cryptic warning that he got from what he thinks was a goddess immediately afterwards that was bad. And then his birthmark glowing, then dying, then the unexplainable sadness that followed. Yeah, that was bad. But meeting Wild was wonderful. The fact that he was somehow Twilight’s brother was even better.
And the stable was… okay. At least until they tried to take Wild. That… that hurt in more ways than one. (Twilight still can’t breathe right—)
At least the woods are pretty. They’re cold. And a bit dark. And… scary. But at least they’re pretty. Even if he and Wild are hungry all the time.
But the new people— the new grownups. They’re not okay. Nuh uh. It doesn’t matter if they seem really, really nice, or if they keep leaving toys, or blankets, or food—
No. No, the grownups are not okay, because Twilight will never make that mistake again. Grownups are bad. Scary. They hurt.
And Twilight will never let grownups close to them again.
Or: a child Twi and Wild fic, but with a ✨twist✨. And a whole lot of angst.

Link doesn’t sleep.
He almost never does. He never rests his eyes, or takes a nap. He is never fully rested, never free of the dark circles that lie below his eyes.
Sometimes, his lack of sleep is manageable. Others, it’s . . . dangerous, to say the least.
And when Link finds a strange, massive wolf, he does his best. Even if the ground is starting to sway. And for a long while, he couldn't figure out if the wolf was real, or a lie.
. . . He was scared to find out.
Then the strange travelers came out of nowhere. That was when everything went wrong, Link supposed. They nearly killed him, too. Although, that was partly his fault.
And yet, Link doesn’t sleep. And he never would, if he had a say about it.
Screw the consequences.
