Summary
Will got shitfaced drunk for the first time in his life, that night in the Village. It was good to feel loose, dizzy, to leave the lonely boy shivering in the woods behind for a few hours. It was even better to feel eyes on him, wandering hands on the dance floor—to feel wanted, seen. He didn’t quite remember how he got from the club to the guy’s Chelsea apartment, but he remembered the rest. Hands, lips, muscled biceps. The pain, the stretch, the aching pleasure. The pre-dawn cab ride home. It was a wholly decent first time, all things considered. He told himself that in the dark, cold days that followed, hiding away in the studio, furiously working, avoiding all his new friends. The guy was nice; he used a condom, Will was 95% sure. Weeks passed. Will didn’t get sick. And the next time he picked up the phone and heard Mike’s voice on the other end of the line, he went out and did it again.

He was picking at loose threads on the armchair cushion, staring at Will’s earring. Finally, he worked up the nerve to ask—
“When’d you get your ear pierced?”
Will glanced his way and smiled, a little sheepish. “Like a month ago,” he said, twisting the gold stud between his fingertips.
“What does Carlton think about it?” Max asked, leaning forward with a wolfish grin.
Will flushed, ducking his head. “He likes it,” he said, simply.
Mike’s mouth went dry. The world skidded to a stop. “Who’s Carlton?”

“How else could I get the chance to talk to you alone?” Will feels like the air was just knocked out of him. Of course Mike is joking, but there’s a hint of truth to the statement. He was looking for ways to get Will alone. Will isn’t sure whether this information excites him or terrifies him.
“You’re nutty,” Will says, physically shaking the worries from his head.
“Maybe so,” Mike says, “but it worked.”

Summary
Mike couldn’t hear, he couldn’t feel, he couldn’t taste. It felt like all of his senses turned off to transition maximum power to his eyes, and he couldn’t take them off of the little wrinkle of worry on a forehead Mike had never seen in broad daylight, and hadn’t seen at all in at least three years.
It was his last day on Earth. He had survived Demogorgons, the Mind Flayer, and government officials on numerous occasions. He survived fucking Vecna.
Yet, this was his demise. Will's new haircut.
At least he could claim it was a really nice hair cut. Like, really nice.
Or: Mike notices the Party growing up, and he feels like they're leaving him behind. Will offers to show him the art of self-discovery, but with every new move, all Mike can focus on is Will. Mike is afraid that as he learns who he wants to be, he won't like what he finds.

As he pulled back again, deciding it was time for another nap, he saw Moony blushing, red blotches appearing on his neck and cheeks. Pleased with himself, Sirius closed his eyes. He really was excited for what this summer would hold for him.

As if on cue, the gods above hearing the spiralling turn his thoughts take, a scream – an all-too-familiar scream – echoes from upstairs, travelling down from the attic to the dungeon. Mike freezes, unable to move, unable to even draw in a breath, as Will screams again – more drawn-out, filled with more agony.
It sinks into his bones, the knowledge that Will is in pain. In pain, and screaming with it. “Will,” he breathes. “WILL! WILL!”

Their seventh year should have been spent at Hogwarts but instead, Mike, Will and Jane are on the run, hunting for Horcruxes to take Vecna down once and for all. Things take an awful turn when they're taken by Snatchers and Will is taken to a separate room to be tortured, Mike unable to do anything but listen to his screams.

“But he’s so amazing,” said Holly, as Mike shuffled his feet slowly when he realised she would not be relinquishing her hold on him anytime soon. He dragged her into the hallway so he could put on his coat. “He’s the best, most incrediblest, most fantastic babysitter in the whole world! You should marry him!”
