“I told him once that, despite all my whisperings through the chrysalis, I could never entirely predict the creature that would hatch. It would follow its own nature,” Hannibal says. When she doesn’t seem satisfied with that, “I think it was a decision born in the moment. I don’t know that even Will knew what he intended.”She nods, once, and stands. They’ve been anchored for several hours, so it’s time to continue their trek out of the channel and into the open ocean. Another few hours should do it. Then he’s free to go anywhere, start another life in some faraway city. Host parties, hunt freely, stock up his closet again and prowl for ostentatious art to decorate his walls. But Chiyoh, knowing him well (though not as well as some, Hannibal concedes), can sense his displeasure.
“We can go back for him. If you think it is wise,” she says quietly. “If you wish to.”--------

A flutter of movement draws his eyes upwards towards the roof; instantly, relief floods through Pure Vanilla’s jam. The flock is mercifully still here, perched above his head on a nearby rooftop. Summary
Three brush strokes to the right. Two to the left. A hand smoothing over his forehead, sweeping his bangs aside.
Shadow Milk knows the pattern well. His hair is always brushed the same way, in movements that seem almost robotic in how perfectly they’ve mastered the repetition. The bristles of the brush always skim over his closed eyes with such care, nimbly avoiding anywhere they might prick or poke. It always ends with a few final touches, tucking any stray wisps back into place before the brush is set back down on the dresser before him.
Pure Vanilla’s hands smooth through Shadow Milk’s hair, coming to rest gently on his shoulders.
“There. Ready for the day?”
Shadow Milk does not answer.
Shadow Milk has not answered in a long, long time.

The prince flushed instantly— cheeks warm, ears turning red beneath the fall of gold in his hair.
“I—I did not,” he managed, far too quickly.
The stranger froze. And then— he howled.
A laugh tore from his chest, loud and wild. Not the sly little chuckle he usually exhaled, but something full-bodied and absolutely delighted.
“You— you actually did!” he gasped, clutching his stomach as if the absurdity physically hurt him. “Oh, witches, I was only teasing! I didn’t think—oh, you dumb, dumb prince!”
Pure Vanilla, still very much crimson-faced, crossed his arms lightly, trying— and failing —not to let the corner of his mouth twitch.
“I did not dress up for you,” he repeated, softer this time.
The thief wiped the corner of his eye, breath hitching between the remains of his laughter. “Oh, please, don’t lie to me now, little prince. I’m already touched.” He sat up straighter, juggling his half-eaten apple as if he was a jester in mid act. “You waltzed into the woods looking almost like a bride, I mean! Witches! You’ve got enough metal on you to ransom a kingdom!"

She doesn't understand but if he was willing to stand up to all of them and give the Beast a chance to change then she supposes she has no other choice but to support him. Unfortunately for them, her faerie subjects get the wrong idea of why the two Ancients are meeting more frequently and decide to take matters into their own hands.
A potion to bring forth hidden affections given to the one cookie that has some form of love for every single person he's ever known means now White Lily has to try and keep an increasingly cuddly Pure Vanilla from embarrassing himself in front of everyone he crosses paths with. And when Shadow Milk shows up, she needs to keep him from making a mistake that may just drive the jester away for good.
Pure Vanilla is lucky she's always been good at figuring out spell craft... and with an extremely reluctant Shadow Milk's help, maybe they can break this lovestruck haze that her friend is trapped in.
