Summary
Shane has decided to join Ilya at his Halloween Party. Not as a couple but as another small step forward in changing their narrative. Shane has finally worked up the courage to meet Ilya's new team.
Meanwhile the Centaurs have decided to use the party as a chance to solve the mystery of who is Jane? Ilya's mysterious girlfriend who he seems to have moved countries for.

When Shane called him back the next day after practice Ilya was ready to try to talk him into it. And also ready to be disappointed. He just knew Shane was going to say no.But then Shane surprised him. God he loved Shane. Apparently he had gone through a whole pro-con list and decided it wasn't a bad idea. The whole point of Ilya moving to Ottawa was to change their narrative. For them to appear more friendly.
A Halloween party was a step in that direction. They weren't ready to go to the party as a couple yet, but Shane could go as Ilya’s friend. It was a small step but it made Ilya so loved.

“Okay, so, if you could go back in time and send one text message that you wrote but never sent, what would that text message be?”
“What?” Dykstra’s eyebrows furrow together.
“Wait, no, I get it,” Hayes nods eagerly, “We all have that one text we think about constantly, the one that we typed out and stared at for way too long before deleting it and sending something completely different.”
“Or nothing at all,” Haas mumbles.
There’s one that comes to Shane’s mind immediately.
Only one, really.
He’s thought about that night before a lot, he’s thought about what might’ve happened if he had sent that text. He thinks that, maybe, they could’ve figured their shit out a little bit sooner if there had been that extra ounce of vulnerability between the both of them.
Shane thinks that if he could go back in time to send that text message, maybe he would.

OR, Shane has his first official hang out with the Ottawa Centaurs, they play truth or dare, and he ends up telling Ilya about the "we didn't even kiss" text.

In fact, Ilya’s absolutely certain that if he lets a kiss happen right fucking now, it’ll mess so much with his poor, shredded, and damaged heart that he wouldn’t know what to do with it.
So instead, he permits himself a small brush of Shane’s hair, on the pretense that he’s just pushing it out of his eyes, and then he steps out of the reach of Shane’s hand. Shane’s face immediately looks so crestfallen that Ilya blurts out:
“Let me walk you to your room.”
Like he’s - blyat, his fucking parent or they’re a couple in a 1950s movie, or something.
Shane’s eyes darken and - fuck this is a bad idea.
Just like everything else they do.
Ilya motions at Shane to drink more water while he grabs a sanitizing wipe and walks over to the bike he’d been using earlier. There’s a little burble of laughter behind him, and he looks up from wiping the seat down to raise an eyebrow at Shane.
“What? I am practicing good gym behavior. I am not an asshole.”
Shane’s face grows inordinately soft, then, and he says quietly:
“No. You’re not.”

The Bears were a family, kept in line by a good coaching staff, and a shark of a captain, who kept the locker room in check. No hazing of younger rookies anymore, no tolerance for bigoted bullshit either. The second, was that he was probably hopelessly in love with his regular barista who almost certainly had no idea who he was outside of ‘customer she sometimes casually flirted with’. She was cool as fuck and absolutely not a sports fan, which was Cliff’s usual move, and Cliff was terrified of her. A story for another day.
