The day he meets the boy it is cold and drizzly and dreary, just as life always is, because he lives in an oblivion of monotony and decay and everything surrounding him is gray and colorless. Just like his eyes, they've become desaturated to such a degree, sometimes, in the darkness of the night against the mirror, they look like old blood.
But he immediately knows that this boy is the most interesting sight he’s ever laid eyes upon. There’s something about him,‘Light’, the boy who lives up to his name, who sparkles with a brilliance.
When Light comes to Wammy's House as a boy, he immediately catches Beyond Birthday's eye. Which turns out to be a bigger mistake for the latter.

Summary
Yagami Light is perfect, everyone always says so. There's no refuting it, he's just always been perfect.
However, there has always been a darkness inside him that others cannot see. It's sticky and suffocating in all its entirety. When he gets his hands on the Death Note and his void becomes real, Light starts to struggle with the addiction the notebook brings.
Suddenly, he starts to spiral in his competition with the World’s Greatest Detective, L. The outside starts to match the inside and the very unreal void becomes tangent in the form of inky black wings.
Light’s perfect image is about to be destroyed and he’s terrified that he’ll be caught and lose the Death Note for good.

Beyond Birthday wouldn’t usually say he was surrounded by death, but that he knew it well. He knew it better than he knew almost anyone else; he knew it better than he knew himself. He sometimes found solace in its predictability, thinking of it as a safe constant. He either didn't see death as much to worry about, or didn't see those who would soon meet it as much to worry about.
But A was always an exception, in every sense, in every way.
