Aemond Targaryen had been an odd child from birth. Small in a way that was unlike his siblings, even his half-sister Rhaenyra, yet even more fierce. That behavior did not change as the years passed, and eventually came to a halt the night that he claimed the Queen of all Dragons. The song is adapted to tell the story of the Field of Fire from the perspective of King Loren I Lannister, the last King of the Rock before Aegon I Targaryen's war of conquest.
Loren's fight against the Targaryens during their conquest of Westeros ended in a decisive victory for the Targaryens that became known as the Field of Fire for the devastation that Aegon, Rhaenys, and Visenya unleashed when they led their dragons to unleash a sea of fire on Loren's and King Mern IX Gardener's armies. Although most of Loren's army was reduced to ash, he was able to flee in the confusion of battle. He later submitted to the Targaryens and became known as Loren the Last.
The lyrics of I See Fire were just too fitting not to adapt for this as they were already dragon themed to begin with!The original lyrics from Ed Sheeran, I See Fire (2013) are included for comparison.
