Toothless and Aurora are two night furies who share a close bond. But after Aurora had to leave Berk because of her father’s work, she finally returns twelve years later, ready to enroll in the prestigious Dragon Academy. Reuniting with Toothless, she quickly discovers that the academy is far from peaceful — a chaotic battlefield filled with constant rivalries, bullying, and competing gangs of different dragons. Even the teachers seem to fan the chaos rather than control it.
To make matters worse, Aurora’s old rival is also at the school.
Facing both old enemies and new challenges, Aurora must learn to adapt quickly, earn respect, and fight with grit and fangs — or risk being swallowed, chewed and spitted out by the academy’s relentless, chaotic environment.

Hiccup's attempt to sneak away during the opening minutes of Race To The Edge: Season 3 Episode 1 fails, and he and Toothless end up accompanied by Astrid and Stormfly on their 'scouting' mission. They find something entirely unlike a Dragon Hunter ship... or rather, it finds (and wipes the walls with) them.
The next thing the two of them know, they're waking up in a strange metal prison cell on a boat somehow deep underwater, a boat heading for an impossible city hidden beneath the waves. Alarming, yes, but not a worst-case scenario. They've been in plenty of worse predicaments already... or so they thought.
As it turns out, this city is owned and operated by Frank Grimborn, an estranged brother to the same Viggo Grimborn who got the better of Hiccup several months ago. And as if that weren't enough, the guy's a sociopath with a penchant for genetic experimentation, and Hiccup, Astrid, and their dragons have just become his newest test subjects.

At fourteen Hiccup is a prodigious, up-and-coming dracozoologist, a profession and field he'd been obsessed with since before he could read. He'd always been fascinated by the beasts, but one day he gets too close. On this day he's whisked away with a herd of goats and taken somewhere no human was meant to be.
As it happens, Hiccup knows woefully little about the creatures he'd admired his whole life. Now he's trapped in the draconic sky-city of Yggdraal, unable to return home lest humankind learn of the Dracofolk's true natures. But every cloud has its silver lining, and from Hiccup's perspective, there are clouds all around. Now he has the chance to really learn about dragons, and there was so much he was ignorant of.
The most fascinating thing he learned? Dragons are ungendered. They have no 'male' and 'female' as humans think of them, each member is capable both siring young and laying eggs. Though, to Hiccup, all dragons look male. Not that he'd complain about that, especially since one dragon seems to have taken an interest in him, the one whose fault it is he's there in the first place, the Night Fury named Toothless.
