The first thing that stopped Marcus was the motorcycle helmet—a smooth, matte-black void where a face should have been, the visor down and reflecting the grey street like a dead eye. Then, a canvas worker's jacket; the entire front had been claimed by a single, violent piece of street art. A bat, its wings jagged and spanning from pocket to collarbone, was sprayed in a black so thick it still looked wet.

His sentence was cut off as he collided into something— someone, sending the stranger stumbling to the floor, the papers the man was holding flying out across the linoleum floor.
“Oh jeez,” Clark mutters under his breath, “Lois, I have to go, I’ll call you back.”
He doesn’t wait for her response— he’s sure she’ll be fine, if not just mildly irritated, and she’d surely fill in his interview, even if he had hell to pay for it later— before he shoves his phone into his pocket, pushing his glasses back up his nose as he kneels down to help gather up the papers, “I’m so sorry,” he apologised profusely, extending the messy pile of sheets to the stranger, “I was in a bit of a rush, I didn’t see you there and I—”
He pauses, finally looking up at the other man.

She’s an adult. She already has a father, a decent one, even.
But her father isn’t here and she’s the same age as Jason. Bruce thinks of how he felt with Jason halfway across the country with the Kents, and how grateful he was to Jonathan and Martha for taking care of him.
If Liz’s father is as decent as she says, Bruce decides he probably wouldn’t mind if he takes the girl under his wing.
